Apply ice at night and moist warm heat in the morning. Chiropractors are helpful with this problem. Injection of the rib head with a cortisone shot is another treatment option. Nerve pain: The rib cage discomfort may be due to pressure on a nerve caused by a spur or disc in the midback spine. A deep breath can also pinch the intercostal nerve which runs between ribs. I recommend an evaluation by an orthopedic surgeon who will order the appropriate images. ...Read more

31yr female. Sharp Pain on only one point of spine slightly towards left in mid back. Pain only when pressed. Should I worry?

Depends: Can you think of any trauma to the area, like leaning against a hard chair or bra strap, or a fall? Do you have any fever? Has it been there more than a week or so? Is it worsening? Do you have any shooting pain or weakness? The answer to these questions will help decide what the next step in diagnosis should be, or if it is ok to just wait and see if it resolves. ...Read more

I have been getting mid back pain after eating and sometimes on my right side on the side. Is this life threatening? Gb removed 6 MS ago. Scared.

Don't be afraid.: Pain after meals can be frightening, but having your gall bladder removed eliminates that as a cause of your pain. I would recommend seeing a gastroenterologist for an upper endoscopy and evaluation for reflux/ulcer disease. In the mean time you should take a daily over the counter acid reducer such as Pepcid, Nexium (esomeprazole) or Prilosec. ...Read more

Occult blood 2+, Bacteria Few, mid back pain both sides. Dr said occult blood in women is ok. I think somethings wrong I have old antibiotics, amox/ckav, flagly, Penicillin VK Advice?

Don't self medicate: Taking the wrong antibiotic, or for shorter than a full course, can prove to be ineffective. And if medication is old it may have lost potency. If physician said you are OK, but you don't feel right, call him/her again, or seek a second opinion. Taking wrong Meds is at best ineffective, at worst dangerous. And throw out any Meds over a year old. ...Read more
