Avoid alcohol: Fluconal is the trade name for fluconazole, an anti-fungal, in some countries. (Fluzone is influenza VACCINE). Some reports suggest that adding fluconazole to doxycycline can synergistically increase the anti-fungal effects of doxycycline. Most important is to avoid if you have liver disease. Since alcohol also affects the liver, I would abstain or drink very little alcohol while taking these meds ...Read more

How long do 4 metronidazole 500mg tablets stay in your system? In terms of days. Example, I take it today, Sunday. When is it safe to have alcohol?
A day or two: Actually, metronidazole doesn't usually react with alcohol at all. I was on Metronidazole 250mg for 7 days.Today is my first 24hrs off of the medication, what is the reccomended time to wait before consuming alcohol?
Wait 4 days:
Metronidazole interferes with breakdown of alcohol in the body. References stress waiting *at least* three days after your last metronidazole dose. I would suggest waiting longer simply because the side effects of the interaction are so violent and miserable - they include nausea, vomiting, headaches, flushing, and stomach cramps. I suggest waiting four days to be on the safe side.
