Toprol (metoprolol) only med for 150days. Leg fatigue started 3 weeks ago (no other symptoms) tons of dr testing, all neg. Off for 6 days, when will I feel better?

Soon: The first question is if your symptoms are truly related to the medication. After 6 days your symptoms should already be starting to improve. If it is related to the medicine, and your symptoms haven't improved yet, they should soon. The medicine typically doesn't last very long. Good luck, feel better. ...Read more

Viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride): Fairly new antidepressant made by forest labs, same company that made Celexa & lexapro. I note similar results on low dose of viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride). Talk to your doctor about dose or switch, due to lack of response, assuming you tried viibryd (vilazodone hydrochloride) long enough. ...Read more

In general, about how long after I start metoprolol tart before the ses decrease? I've had insomnia, fatigue after workout, slight nausea/depression

Give it several week: Give it several weeks before the symptoms die down. Blood levels of the drug can vary greatly from individual to individual due to differences in how individuals liver processes the medication. In the event that the depression continues, I would recommend you talk to your family doctor about switching to a different medication. Never stop this medication suddenly you can experience rebound hypertension. ...Read more

What CHF treatments will not cause fatigue and memory loss? My mother's apparent "dementia" arose from lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) when she got CHF after bowel surgery.

Avoid betablockers: CHF can be treated without the use of a beta blocker (lopressor) although using one is preferable. Thus, she can be treated with a diuretic, angiotensin inhibitor, aldosterone antagonist and, it might be reasonable to try a different beta blocker such as carvedilol. It's commonly started at an exceptionally low dose (3.125 mg) and gradually increased to 6.25, 12.5 and 25 mg — all twice a day. ...Read more

Can switching medication, metropolol tartrate to succinate, cause dizziness and fatigue; if it does will it last for a couple of days?

Can switching medication, metropolol tartrate to succinate, cause dizziness and fatigue; if it does will it last for a couple of days?

It's dose dependent: The difference between the tartrate and succinate formulation is the half-life (how long the medicine is active in your blood stream). Milligram for milligram, they're equivalent: e.g. 50 mg of met tart 2x a day is the same as 100 mg of met succ once a day. If your overall dose is increased, you could experience fatigue and dizziness till you get used to the new dose. Be sure your BP isn't too low. ...Read more

My mother was on atenolol 12.5 once a day, but is now on metroprolol 50 mg. twice a day. She now feels extreme fatigue. Why is this drug so different?

My mother was on atenolol 12.5 once a day, but is now on metroprolol 50 mg. twice a day. She now feels extreme fatigue. Why is this drug so different?

Big difference: That's a big step up in dosage of the class of drug known as beta blockers. 12.5 mg of Atenolol would likely be equivalent to 12.5mg of Metoprolol twice a day. Beta blockers as a rule can cause fatigue or lack of energy, and it's dose dependent meaning the more you take the greater the chances you will feel these side effects. ...Read more

I read they treat POTS with both beta blocker and ADD meds for fatigue, I have had severe fatigue for years and it greatly affects work, family, etc.?

Rx for POTS: Often treatment for POTS symptoms is done with SSRI medication, adding salt, florinef, (fludrocortisone) midodrine, or compression stockings. Sometimes beta blockers may help. I have not heard anyone use ADD medicines.

Do you have POTS? It is not an easy diagnosis to make, although changes in your blood pressure from lying to standing might indicate it. ...Read more

Very fatigued from an elevated heartrate.went on beta blocker and i have way more energy now.most people feel lethargic though.why opposite for me?

Cardiology : If that's true you need to see a Cardiologist to determine if you have AV Nodal reentry tachycardia or another dangerous tachyarrythmia that may need to be mapped, ablated, or otherwise controlled. Beta blockers can slow your heart rate but the rhythm must then be identified cardioverted and controlled by pacemaker or pharmacological means. You need a holter monitor and stress test. See cards. ...Read more

Very low pulse cos of beta blocker (40 sometimes less). I'm experiencing dizziness breathing problems and general tiredness too. Cause for concern?

No cause: For "concern....ask your physician for a different beta blocker (they vary as to how much effect on receptors) The "right" blocker for you can be "titrated" to reduce your symptoms. Many people do not tolerate pulse rates below 45-50!!!! For the present, I would take your pulse before taking the beta blocker and OMIT if heart rate is below 40-45!!
Hope this helps!

Is there an adjustment period moving from a beta blocker (felt fatigue, etc.) to an ACE inhibitor of equivalent strength?

Maybe: If you have been on the beata blocker for a long period or have been on a high dose you may go through a short period of withdrawal where your body is learning to function without the medicaiton. A common compalint is fatigue which should improve over time. That said, you should contact your md & tell them what you are experiencing & let them decide how to proceed. ...Read more
