Metoprolol And Dizziness
What would you recommend as best beta blocker with least side effects to treat my SVT? Propranolol & metoprolol made me too dizzy.
Dose dependent: It's not so much the med as the dose - since the side effect of all BBs is to lower BP. If your BP becomes too low, you'll get dizzy. That said, the BB I like the best for SVT is nadolol. The usual dose is 20-80 mg once a day, but for you, I'd recommend starting at 10 mg once a day and if you tolerate it, think about increasing the dose. ...Read more
I switched from toprol (metoprolol) to propranolol bc of dizziness, feel much better, but I'm having diarrhea on propranolol. Toprol (metoprolol) caused constipation. Normal?

Toprol (metoprolol) XL as a beta blocker gives me too much dizziness as a prescription side effect. Can I expect that another bb will probably have the same side effect?
Yes: Toprol (metoprol (metoprolol)ol) is a "cardioselective" beta blocker, meaning is binds and effects the heart more than the blood vessels. This is suppose to decrease the side effects. If you are having dizziness from toprol (metoprolol) then I would try using something in a different class. With that said, that rule is not absolute, and depending on your situation a beta blocker + dizziness may be the best choice. Listen to your doc. ...Read more
My BP gets to about 95/56 at rest which makes me dizzy the doctor cut my 25mg cozaar in half but no change I also take toprol (metoprolol) what else can we try?
I've had sudden dizziness and feeling of fainting when standing lately. I take metoprolol and Diovan (valsartan). What could cause this? I'm over weight by +60.
I'm being weaned off metoprolol after being on it for 2 years for hbp. I was taking 50mg morning 50 at night. Now on 25mg just at night. Dizzy spells?
More info: Dizzy spells can have a number of causes including tapering off metoprolol. However, more information is needed, such as current blood pressure, other medications, new medications recently started, other disease processes going on, or even recent colds and flu's. All of these can play a role in dizziness. Best to follow up with your doctor so that he or she can examine you and find a cause. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Which hypertension rx's (generic or brand at this time) have the lowest side effect of dizziness? Now: toprol (metoprolol) 200mg & verapramil 100mg. Both--ugh!
I use to take toprol (metoprolol) and cozaar now I can't even take 12.5 of the toprol (metoprolol) and my BP is too low (87/53) and dizzy w/ chest pain why the change?
Get attention: New chest pain & such low BP both need medical attention. Can't take Cozaar (losartan) at this bp. Can't tell in your case, but possible causes of new sensitivity to BP meds include dehydration, addition of diuretic, major weight loss. But if the low BP is related to the new chest pain, which could be from a blood flow problem or other cardiac condition, that really would need attention asap. ...Read more

Russian Roulette: Combining sedatives or anti depressives with narcotics and/or alcohol is exactly like playing russian roulette. This is due to the fact that these medications when taken together can adversely affect the respiratory drive, which is the unconscious impulse to continue breathing. It is among the leading causes of death among young people today, let alone older more vulnerable people. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
Have headache, stuffy nose, swollen glands, dizziness, chills, &sweating. Cold or flu? I take Lopressor (metoprolol tartrate) for Pots/tachycardia. What cold meds should I avoid?
No Sudaphed: Afrin will help with nasal congestion, & when used correctly has little systemic effect. The drug alone can only be taken short time or stops working. I suggest U ask physician for prescription of Fluticosone Propionate which sprayed in nostrils & breathed in once daily can help U to take the meds longer. Reasonable to test for flu & take tamiflu if positive. Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ASA for other symptoms ...Read more
