My metoprolol tart 25mg went from a tiny orange pill to a bigger sized white pill could that be causing side effects? Why did the look change?
Different generic: Your pharmacist probably switched brands of metoprolol. However, I would recommend that you make sure you got metoprolol and not another drug by mistake. To make sure that you got the right drug, you can use one of several pill identifier websites such as : http://www. Drugs. Com/imprints. Php. I was on Atenolol 50mg daily. Doctor switching me to Toprol (metoprolol) XL 25mg. Bad side effects with atenolol. Is this equivalent? What should I expect?
Resolution of sympto: STOP 2ND GUESSING EVERYTHING THAT UR DOCTOR DOES! I assume u explained what "bad side effect" atenolol was causing to ur doctor (there's no description here). I also assume the side effect was from low BP. Toprol (metoprolol) XL is a longer-acting pill (that's y "XL"). It's also @a lower equivalent dose. So it shdn't drop the BP as much, & lasts longer (wears off slower) so u shd be covered for the entire day. ...Read more
What would you recommend as best beta blocker with least side effects to treat my SVT? Propranolol & metoprolol made me too dizzy.
Dose dependent: It's not so much the med as the dose - since the side effect of all BBs is to lower BP. If your BP becomes too low, you'll get dizzy. That said, the BB I like the best for SVT is nadolol. The usual dose is 20-80 mg once a day, but for you, I'd recommend starting at 10 mg once a day and if you tolerate it, think about increasing the dose. ...Read more
Doctor is weaning me off of Metoprolol with the aid of coversyl. I will then take another BP med. Is this common & will it work? Any side effects?
Depends: Depends on the dose of metoprolol you were taking, the formulation (i.e. short vs. Long acting), and the duration you were on the metoprolol. The two parameters to monitor include the blood pressure and heart rate. Weaning too fast, may result in a faster heart rate, or even palpitations. The blood pressure response varies from patient to patient. Call 911 if chest pains, dizziness, breathless ...Read more
Wouldn't blame meds:
I would think more likely it would be dietary or genetic factors affecting an LDL cholesterol. True, the metoprolol could adversely affect the lipid profile but I think it's relatively unlikely. I would recc talking to your doctor about it more. There are other options for blood pressure management out there.
Take care. ...Read more
Hello what are the side effects on taking lisinopril 40mg and metoprolol 25mg? I am supposed to start tomorrow but it seems a high dose.
All melds could potentially have side effects, concentrate in the good benefits of lowering the BP, and not on side effects. I would take the lisinopril in am and the metoprolol at night, so to prevent bottoming down on BP. If asthmatic, may cause wheezing, feeling tire and slow, a skin rash, but for the most part, these are well tolerated. Good Luck, chart your BP twice daily, while on these, Best
Can I take my beta blockers (metoprolol 12, 5 mg) daily together with my much needed paroxetine (20 mg daily)? Any side effects or something else? TU
Ok with caution: The combination can increase the effect of metoprolol by slowing its metabolism (breakdown) in the liver. Too much metoprolol can cause low blood pressure and low heart rate, with dizziness or fainting as a result. However, 12.5 mg of metoprolol is a low dose, so your doctor may have already taken this into account, & is counting on the paroxetine to increase the beta blocker's effectiveness. ...Read more
