Does methotrexate help with psoriatic psoriasis.stiffness in the joints,I am on 20mg weekly. Thanks?
It can: Typically, at any particular dose of methotrexate, it will take about 8 to 12 weeks to see what the level response will be with that dose. About 2/3rds of people will get a 20 to 50% decrease in joint pain/swelling within 3 months once the best/safest dose is determined. Sometimes even a better response! If you get < 20% improvement your MD may discuss options of a higher dose vs other meds. ...Read more
I am on Methotrexate for Psoriasis. For the last 3 months I have stiffness in my joints on hands and knees.Could this be psoriatic Psoriasis. Thanks?
Maybe: Approximately 20% of psoriasis patients get psoriatic arthritis (PSA). It depends on which joints are hurting and whether they are actually inflamed. There are other causes of joint pain unrelated to your psoriasis that need to be ruled out. A Rheumatologist can help you sort this out. ...Read moreSee 4 more doctor answers

Mucositis?: These don't sound like symptoms of sinusitis, and I think you are on the right track. This sounds like oral mucositis (medicalese for inflammation of mucous membranes), which is a well known side effect of many chemotherapeutic drugs, including methotrexate. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23601229 ...Read more

Healing: The healing process for most surgical wounds is 6-8 weeks. The inside part is usually around the same, but obviously variable. I would suggest calling your surgeon to find out for your case. May want to bring you in for a follow up exam as well. Time heals all wounds... Hope this helps! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Absolutely NOT!: The combination of alcohol and Methotrexate has caused many people to have liver failure requiring a liver transplant to survive.Methotrexate can irritate the liver by itself but is quite safe at the low weekly doses used to treat many autoimmune conditions.Never drink any alcohol while on methotrexate. If you absolutely "must" drink alcohol, tell your doc so he/she can take you off methotrexate. ...Read more

Psoriasis: While Humira is an excellent therapy for severe psoriasis, there are times when it stops working. Rest, heat: Muscle "stiffness" after exercise is due to metabolite build up. This occurs when the work the muscle does exceeds the rate of oxygen supplied. It occurs during strength more than endurance training, that is when "bulking up". The real answer is to go more slowly in your training. But heat, massage and if very sore judicial use of an anti inflammatory such as advil or Aleve (naproxen) will help. ...Read more
