Does methotrexate. Cause memory loss or is it RA itself? If so how to prevent and strengthen my memory?

Some thoughts: I have seen hundreds of people on Methotrexate for their rheumatoid arthritis and then I agree that hair loss is a bothersome side effect. Nonetheless, at the doses used treat RA I never saw aperson go bald. You're going to have hair loss and there's no good therapy to prevent that. Also, milk rich food: If you take oral Methotrexate (tablets) along with milk or milk-rich foods, it may decrease absorption. This is not toxic but may result in getting a lower dose than you need to keep your disease under control. Yes. Agree, but....: Methotrexate can be very effective. However, the first studies raising the specter of liver disease came from psoriasis patients on daily low dose oral mtx!. The first pass effect is dangerous for the liver. Mtx cannot be adjudicated aqs an oral drug. Absorption is variable (40-90%), causes GI upset, and hits the liver first. I only use subcutaneous mtx once weekly. This is the safest! ...Read more
Absolutely NOT!: The combination of alcohol and Methotrexate has caused many people to have liver failure requiring a liver transplant to survive. Methotrexate can irritate the liver by itself but is quite safe at the low weekly doses used to treat many autoimmune conditions. Never drink any alcohol while on methotrexate. If you absolutely "must" drink alcohol, tell your doc so he/she can take you off methotrexate. ...Read more

Several.: Fatigue after taking your weekly dose. Gi quiziness. Hair loss. Potential liver issues, especially taken orally. Your white count can be lowered, as well as hemoglobin. Very good drug.: Mtx tabs are 2.5mg. Taken orally, they are in the gut @600x that will be in the blood strea. Absorption is variable-40-90%. Then to the liver which sees 400x that which will be diluted out. None of these are significant issues when given by a weekly subcutaneous injection.
