What are signs of methotrexate intoxicty?

Many: Methotrexate toxicity can take many forms, from extreme mucositis, low blood counts, and kidney damage. If Methotrexate is given intrathecally (into spinal csf) as is done to treat leukemia, it can sometimes cause toxicity to the brain, which can manifest itself as seizures. Methotrexate can also affect the liver and lungs. If you are having new symptoms, talk with the prescribing doctor.

How long does methotrexate stay in your body for?

How long does methotrexate stay in your body for?

Depends on…: Dose & how long you were on it. Mtx's half life (amount of time for active med to be reduced by 1/2) is given as 3-15 hours but varies according the dose. It takes at least 4-5 half lives for a drug to be eliminated from the system, assuming there is normal liver & kidney function.

How long does methotrexate stays in your body for?

3-4 weeks: That is difficult to answer. The half life of Methotrexate is only 15 hours but it remains in the liver longer. I would say it would be gone in 3 weeks or so.

For what length of time can methotrexate make you sick?

See details: What do you mean by sick? If you mean GI problems such as nausea and vomiting, it may last a few days. I would suggest that the Methotrexate be given by injection subcutaneously instead of by mouth. It is easy to do and will avoid GI issues. It may also be more effective this way.

Do you have information on methotrexate uses and effects?

Many and quite safe!: Mtx is used in many autoimmune diseases with great effect. The drug is given IV in high doses to treat cancer. In much lower doses, given subcutaneously like insulin, with fewer side-effects than the same oral dose, does not go to the liver. And you absorb 100%, not the 40-90% when taken by mouth. Great drug. Ist line in ra!
