Depends: Diabetic coma usually is due to prolonged markedly elevated blood sugar. Coma can also occur with too low a blood sugar often from too much insulin. Yes: If you are truly a type 2 diabetic and have never been ketosis prone, you can safely do a water fast. Since you'll have no caloric intake, you would most likely need to stop the metformin.
