Metaxalone is a muscle relaxant and can be helpful in alleviating the pain associated with sprains, strains and other muscle injuries. If this does not sound right to you, you should have your wife call her doctor and ask why this medication was prescribed.
Also, make sure this isn't being confused with Metolazone which is a diuretic (water pill).

Not recommended: Metaxaolne is a pretty strong muscle relaxant that can cause sedation. Ativan, (lorazepam) as a benzodiazepine, is also a strong muscle relaxant and sedating medication. Using the two together can cause severe sedation and their side effects can compound. If you have been prescribed both, stagger the dosing to avoid these compounding side effects.
