Probably phelgm: Mucous secretion due to that produced in the upper sinus passages and upper airway as well at that produced in the lower respiratory tree can drain into the back of the mouth and when tasted, can have a metallic taste pending the type of infection, some blood and if mixed with medications, food and other ingestants, give the metallic taste. Medication effects: It's quite possible one of the medications you were given (clarithromycin?) gave you the metallic taste. Some antibiotics are known for that side effect. Sometimes too mucus from sinus drainage can taste pretty bad... It sounds like you need a thorough check-up. Depends: Depends on if you have other symptoms of infection for example Fever/chills elevated white count. If cough is productive you should get sputum cultures done.
