Side Effects: Ritalin (methylphenidate) is a good drug, but it does have significant side effects. It can cause high heart rate, appetite suppression, and even psychological side effects (hallucinations, etc) in some patients. It does have addictive/abusive potential. So, it does a good job when used correctly, but you just have to keep in close follow up with your doctor. You can be quite sleepy if you abruptly stop ritalin (methylphenidate). ...Read more
If I abused ritalin/methylphenidate and was given a urine test will the levels show that I abused it or will it just show up as a positive so I'll be ?
A routine SAMHSA-5: urine test does not screen for methylphenidate. If a specific screen for mph is used, it depends on the duration of action of the formulation you took & how rapidly you metabolize & excrete it. I hope that you heard yourself say that you're abusing prescription medications. Next step is to recognize that you need to seek treatment for both your addiction & any comorbid psychiatric disorder(s). ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I would...: Absolutely! thats the bad news. The good news is that you are not afraid to say you have a problem with ritalin (methylphenidate). This can get you very far in life. Even better news is that if your psychiatrist has diagnosed with adhd, there are other options with similar benefits that can be considered. There have been studies that show that if adhd is treated right, it can reduce rates of substance use. ...Read more
I have ADHD, perscriebd ritalin, (methylphenidate) it helps, but now i i finish 1 month worth in 2 days of getting high. i tend to abuse drugs. any alternative?stattra
Yes, but I don't : know if it's sold in your country. A stimulant overdose can cause your blood pressure & pulse to increase & may cause a heart attack, stroke &/or death. Tell your psychiatrist & ask for a non- stimulant medication: Strattera, (atomoxetine) Intuniv or Kapvay. They take a few weeks to work, but are not addictive. I don't keep chocolate at home , because I'd eat it all in 1-2 days. Avoid temptation & stay safe. ...Read more
