Ask the ortho: This question requires a lot of knowledge of the break, and a determination of how it's healing. I'm assuming you have an appointment tomorrow to assess this very thing. Not if it maintains-: the reduction if done or if no displacement. Also as long as Ur ortho watches it closely the first couple-3 wks. Also if alignment is good with no rotation at all & is a stable Fx. Also it on U not 2 abuse Ur hand & splint, treat it with care. Cast: It is normal to have pain with broken bones but if this pain is new you need to call your orthopedist. There may be a problem with the cast. Make sure you elevate your hand, rest it on pillows above the level of your heart. If the bone: is not broken, generally the will leave the splint or cast on for 1-2 weeks. If there is a fracture, usually the cast stays on for 4-6 weeks. At your next doctor visit, they will probably take another Xray to make sure there was not a small fracture that didn't show up on the first Xray. Hope this helps! ...Read more
