Which synthetic estrogen is safest, Estradiol Valerate, Mestranol, or Ethinyl Estradiol?

Synthetic meds: 1st no such thing as free lunch ie there's always some potential risk or side effect. 2nd FDA only approves meds which they deem benefit greater than risk (tho obviously not w/o disagreement & controversy). 3rd no studies demonstrate benefit of any oral estrogen over another tho some studies suggest topical safe than oral. 4th Natural isn't safe than synthetic ie tobacco is natural but isn't safe! ...Read more

Desogen (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) birth control--is it good?

Desogen (ethinyl estradiol and desogestrel) birth control--is it good?

Not my 1st choice: I do not like that pill, and it has 30mcg of estrogen and it is 21 days. There are many pills that have less estrogen which is better- less chance for estrogen related side effects. My number one pill i prescribe is loloestin, it only has 10 mcg estrogen which is safer and it has 24 active pills and then 2 estrogen pills so only 2 placebo pills , so you get lighter periods and less chance of a cys. ...Read more

How ovral (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) pills works?

How ovral (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) pills works?

Prevent egg release: Ovral (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) and all birth control pills contain hormones that prevent ovulation (release of egg by your ovary). They also cause the mucous in your cervix (the opening to uterus or womb) thicker which make it hard for sperm to enter. It thins the lining of the uterus which makes it an unpleasant environment for a fertilized egg. ...Read more

What when you are prescribe norethindrone for 5mg for 10 day and when you stop is the same time you are suppose to get regular period. Will i've withdrawal bleeding then start my regular mense later?

Lo ovral, (ethinyl estradiol and norgestrel) side effects vs other pills?

Unlikely: Lo-ovral is a low dose birth control pill that has been around for a long time. It is a progestin dominant pill and like all pills in that category can be associated with some fluid retention, increased appetite and hair changes and lowers the good cholesterol. For the most part, it has been a well tolerated birth control pill choice. ...Read more

What if i skip oc pills as a treatment prescribed by my doctor for degenerative fibroid? I have degenerative fibroid.I'm married woman of 32 years. My doc has given me lo loestrin(1/10 mcg of norethindrone and ethinyl esradiol and 10 mcg of ethinyl estradi

Fibroids : Fibroids are very common and they can cause many symptoms such as abnormal bleeding, pain, pelvic pressure, and infertility or miscarriage. Fibroids are also very controversial in how much they contribute to these conditions as women with fibroids can have no symptoms at all. Fibroids usually shrink after menopause when your reproductive hormone levels fall. Ask 10 doctors what to do with fibroids and you will get several different answers. We all probably agree that when the symptoms are significant and we cannot find another cause then surgery is helpful. We sometimes remove just the fibroids (myomectomy), shrink or stabilize them them medically (bcp, gnrh agonists, progesterone) or radical surgery (hysterectomy). Sometime size alone is a reason to operate. If you are younger and the size is larger and getting larger, then myomectomy may be indicated just for size. We also worry more about possible cancer if the growth rate is very rapid. The decision regarding which therapy has to do with your life goals and medical condition. If yo want more children then hysterectomy is obviously not a good option. Medical therapy sometime works but some of the medications have side effects. A degenerative fibroid means that the tissue has died and it is regressing. Degenerative fibroids can be very painful. Your does not seems to be causing symptoms. You need to work with your physician to understand why he/she suggested the pill. If you are worried about the side effects of the medication then you may be better served with another approach. I do not think it wise to stop the medication without talking with your doctor who knows why they choose the treatment that you are on. Best wishes. ...Read more

Are femara (letrozole) and norethindrone used for stage 4 endometriosis?

Are femara (letrozole) and norethindrone used for stage 4 endometriosis?

Not very successfull: No medical treatment has ever been shown to be effective in treating stage IV endo. This stage means that there is deeply invasive endo usually between the rectum and vagina or cervix. Endo nodules are by definition deeper than 5mm, and the hormones can't penetrate well and they don't respond. You need a surgeon very experienced in complex procedures to remove the endo. ...Read more
