Mesh Panties After Surgery
Just had surgery 5 days ago, the stitches & clear glue looks fine but every day I notice small drops of blood on my underwear. Is that normal?
Garment Guards: As a matter of fact, there are several products available from simple inserts into regular briefs, to an actual disposable garment worn like briefs. It depends on the degree of the problem and your personal preference. You certainly don't have to worry about embarrassing situations with either method and you should obtain and try several types before calling quits since they all fit differently. ...Read more
Do you get a foley for acl surgery? Can u leave underwear on? How long does surgery take? Typical anethstisa?
Ask your surgeon: Most if not all my Acl patients do not get a Foley catheter and I allow them to keep their underware if they want. Surgery is typically about a hour or so. It is done under general anesthesia, nerve block, or spinal anesthesia. Not local anesthesia. You have to drill holes in the bones and local cannot get there. ...Read more
Can I wear underwear during chest surgery? Since it is nowhere near down there will they allow it?
How long do you have to wear the support underwear after hernia surgery? And is it ok I take it off for a day?
Unique question: This is not a normal situation for those of us who work in american medicine. Most hernia surgeries are done laparoscopically and there is little to no post operative pain or problems. I would bet, however, that your surgeon gave you post op instructions that should answer your question. If they did not this is a question to direct to your surgeon. ...Read more
I went off the pill. Breasts have decreased in size, I am an underwear/bikini model so this is a problem. Is there anything I can do other than surgery?
I am having surgery on both of my feet, will I be allowed to wear cotton underwear during surgery?
Depends: This is really a facility dependent concern. Hospitals and surgery centers all have their own policies. However, I have never had a location decline a patient's request to wear their undergarments if they are not going to be a hindrance. The only time I can think they would decline this, is when the length of surgery requires that a catheter may need to be placed. ...Read more

I had inguinal hernia surgery 3 weeks ago now wearing underwear is necessary or optional. If necessary should wear from now or after somedays is ok?
As tolerated: All activity, including underwear wearing, should generally be done as tolerated by pain. One simple rule of thumb is: if it hurts, ease up. As there is always clinical variation, feel free to check with your surgeon as well, especially if you think something is wrong. Get well soon! ...Read more
7 weeks after inguinal hernia surgery if I don't wear tight underwear I feel strange pull in inner thigh and heaviness around surg area. Is it normal?
No: If the umbilical hernia is small enough then it can be repaired without the placement of mesh in the right low risk patient. However, mess is used more often because the hernias are usually larger and in the right cases the use of mesh reduces the risk of recurrence. Best is to discuss your particular case with your general or plastic surgeon. ...Read more

I was not physically aware of my groin mesh placement until 9 weeks after my surgery? Why do I sense it now? What changed? Did it migrate?
Unknown: The proliferative phase of wound healing goes on for 6-8 weeks, and with this done, and inflammation subsided, there may now be a different sensation. Mesh migration is possible, but almost impossible to diagnose other than with an operation. If it doesn't limit your activity, and the hernia has not come back, just go about activity as usual. See your surgeon if more concerned. ...Read more

Whst is the difference between TVT mesh surgery and laparoscopic hysteropexy for prolapse. Really worried as I have read horrendous stories about mesh?
A "meshy" problem: Meshes were often used to augment and support prolapse repairs in the past. Some of the meshes, deteriorated "early" and created some systemic as well as local repair failures. Attorneys have had a "field day" with class action suits for these cases and many MD surgeons will not use them for that reason. Forewarned is forearmed. ...Read more
