So now I am taking Prilosec and asacol (mesalamine) hd. Is what are the possible side effects?

See below: Taking Asacol (mesalamine) hd & Prilosec at the same time may reduce the effectiveness of the asacol (mesalamine). Allow at least 2-3 hours between them. If the Asacol (mesalamine) irritates your stomach, take the Prilosec first, followed by the Asacol (mesalamine) a few hours later. Other antacids, acid blockers like zantac/pepcid will interact with Asacol (mesalamine) in the same way as prilosec; so space the meds apart when you take them. ...Read more

Let your prescribing doctopr know if after a week you are still not able to go thru the night holding the enema ...Read more

Using colocort enema every 3 days to control inflammation from colitis in addition to asacol (mesalamine) daily. Is long time usage of colocort bad? No problem yet

Maybe: Colocort is a steroid medication. Although you are using it in limited fashion and in a topical form, there is still systemic absorption and, over time, steroid side effects can occur (bone loss, glucose intolerance, hip problems, cataracts, etc). Best to discuss your concerns with your provider to see if Mesalamine enemas would help or if you need a different steroid sparing medication. ...Read more

Doctor prescribed me mesalamine enema for hemorroids today. Will the enema or mesalamine suppositories work better?

Doctor prescribed me mesalamine enema for hemorroids today. Will the enema or mesalamine suppositories work better?

Not sure: mesalamine enemas are used for colitis that extends up to the second half the colon, while mesalamine suppositories are used for colitis of the rectum (proctitis). I do not use mesalamine for hemorrhoids.. so you may want to double check on this with your doctor. ...Read more
