Mesalamine 5 Asa Medication
How does sulfasalazine measure up to other 5-asa drugs such as asacol (mesalamine) and colazal for ulcerative colitis?
I'm taking 3 asacol (mesalamine) in the morning and 3 at night. What are the side effects of drinking hard alcohol such as gin or vodka with these medications?
Have Crohn's. Constant flatulence and bloating. Pentasa (mesalamine) and like medications make condition worse. Is there anything else I can try?
Yes: See your gastroenterologist, give him/her an update on your current symptoms and lack of response to the current therapy. The specialist will then work out an alternative treatment plan. Hope that helps. ...Read more

Yes: You can take probiotic with pentase . You need to take the probiotic three times a day. That is because the active culture from the capsules can not survive and permanently colonize the gut and fight and suppress the overgrowth of the bad bacteria. What i advise my patients is to eat plain yogurt about three times a week and that is good to do the job. You can also use keffir. Food is medicine! ...Read more

Im passing asacol (mesalamine) out whole. Does colazal release differently than asacol (mesalamine) or is it also pH dependent? And does it work the same?
Different release: While Asacol (mesalamine) release is ph dependent, Colazal does not become active until the drug reaches the colon where bacteria there splits the drug up into an active state. In fact, the capsule is just a formality as the Colazal powder can be swallowed whole - as it is available overseas. Having said that, many of my patients also see intact Asacol (mesalamine) tabs in their stools. ...Read more
I take pentasa (mesalamine) 500 mg (8 tabs a day) 4 my Crohn's but can I also take calendula capsules along wiv meds wivout it being overpowering on my insides?
Not effective: I'm unaware of any data which suggests that calendula is beneficial for crohn's or any other GI disorders. Anyway, you need to direct this question to your physician who is managing your Pentasa (mesalamine) dosage. Chrohn's disease is complex and variable, so don't skip or adjust meds without medical clearance. Good luck. ...Read more
Child eating somethi: Always call poison control to clarify the item ingested. The poison control number is usually an 800 no. And can be found in the front of your phone book, or any emergency room would have it and you could post it on your fridge or put it somewhere quickly accessible.
