My daughter gets light flow on the 14th day of her menstrual cycle every month. Is it normal?

Yes, that is normal: Occasionally teenagers will have a light flow of blood midcycle. These are due to hormonal surges. There is nothing to worry about.

Menstrual Cycle (Definition)

The menstrual cycle begins with the shedding of the uterine lining, resulting in bleeding from the vagina. A few weeks later, one ovary releases an egg and the uterine lining thickens in preparation for a potential pregnancy. Pregnancy can occur at this stage if sperm fertilizes the egg. If the egg is not fertilized, the egg will leave your body and ...Read more

Why would I start my menstrual cycle on time with regular flow for one day and then the following day just stop? No spotting, nothing

What your normal?: When patients have abnormal periods I always want to know what their normal pattern is. If most periods are normal then one abnormal one (late, early, short, long) is not usually a cause for concern. The cycles tend to regulate and get back to normal quickly. If there is concern for pregnancy check a test.

See a doctor: I recommend seeing a doctor so that they can make a proper diagnosis and give you something to get rid of the condition or relieve symptoms.

Depends on irregular: It depends on how you define irregular. If your periods vary a couple of days each month, that is totally normal. Ovulation and menstruation depend on estrogen and progesterone and those hormone levels can change every month, especially when your young. Diet can also effect cycle timing, if you are not eating properly malnutrition can also cause irregular. Extreme exercise can also cause irreg

Is there a way to stop your menstrual cycle/flow?

Is there a way to stop your menstrual cycle/flow?

Yes: If there are no reasons why you can't take birth control pills (smoker, a history of blood clots, etc), some pills can actually stop you from having periods. Many birth control pills may be taken in a way (by skipping the last week of inactive pills) to delay a period. If your current cycle is extremely heavy, very high doses of either estrogen or birth control pills can usually stop it.

My Menstrual cycle usually last for 4 days with a medium flow in the first half an then becoming light in the second, why did only last one day light?

Depends: Are you on hormonal birth control? If so then the bleed you have between cycles may continue to get lighter and lighter. Yif you are on the pill or patch or ring, that " bleed " one has between cycles is actually not a period", you don't actually menstruate since you don't ovulate, but do have bleeding if the progesterone component is stopped.

My menstrual cycle is always regular. Every 28 days for 3 days. Last month it was 2 days late and this month it came 10 days early. It is a normal flow?

Pregnancy/Normal: The first thing that needs to be ruled out if AT ALL possible is pregnancy. If it is a possibility do a home pregnancy test. This could be a pregnancy or a "chemical pregnancy". The other thing is that at 23 this is a common occurrence. If the flow was normal and this was a one time thing no worries. If your next period is abnormal this needs to be checked. Good luck and don't worry.

Do I count regular flow as the first day of my menstrual cycle or do I count the day I start spotting as the first day?

Do I count regular flow as the first day of my menstrual cycle or do I count the day I start spotting as the first day?

Spotting: Keep a menstrual calendar & count any spotting as day 1 of your cycle. Chart amount of bleeding, days, & any associated cramps, pain, or mood changes. These will help if trying to establish ovulation or if determining if premenstrual hormone changes are affecting your health. Take care.

Do I count the brownish spotting at the end of my menstrual cycle as day 5 or I count the last day that I had with regular blood flow as my last day?

Days of period: If it looks like old blood (all brown), then that means the actual bleeding stopped a day or so prior to that. If there's any bright blood, then you're still on your period it's not a super exact science, so being off by a day or two doesn't make a difference for most things. For pregnancy, we care more about what day your last period started.

My daughter is12.its her 3rd menstrual cycle. She had little flow in 1st cycle, 2nd came early but flow was normal & 3rd came delayed and just for 1day?

Common: During the first 6m to 1yr a young woman may not release eggs with her cycles, which plays a part in setting the timing & regularity. Estrogen is the main hormone that builds the membranes in the womb that break down for menses, & it can produce a variable pattern early. Over tie most will begin to release eggs and set a pattern.

My menstrual cycle has been everyother month, now I have had it twice where I bleed for more than 2 weeks with heavy flow why?

My menstrual cycle has been everyother month, now I have had it twice where I bleed for more than 2 weeks with heavy flow why?

Not ovulating: It sounds as though you are not ovulating regularly. Its okay and not dangerous to have menses every other month, unless you are trying to get pregnant, in which case you might need help to ovulate regularly. If you have heavy flow and frequent menses, this can lead to anemia so you might want to consider going on birth control pills or nuvaring. You should consult a gynecologist for this.

Amennorhea: What you are referring to sounds like "secondary amennhorhea." Pregnancy is the most common cause of this. Less common possibilities are hormonal imbalances that need to be assessed with blood testing.

OCPs: It usually takes at least 3 cycles to determine what they will end up being on the pills. Usually OCPs make your periods lighter and shorter in length.

Menstrual Cycle. No heavy flow, actually very little flow, instead I have very large clots. Almost unbearable cramps that feels like stabbing. Help?

Periods: May need some medications to help this in the acute stages. Also some lab work to assess any hormone dysfunction.
