Hsg- bilateral tubal opacity with no spillage; uterine cavity normal. How can I conceive? Does inj. Palcenterex help? Success rate of tuboplasty/ivf

IVF: If both of your tubes are blocked the only fertility treatment that works is ivf. Success rate of ivf is high if you are young and if the only fertility issue that you have is the blocks tubes. Repairing your tubes is not recommended: it has a high failure rate as well as a very high risk of ectopic pregnancy. Injection will not help. Good luck.. ...Read more

35+4, 3cm dilated, 80% effaced, baby in -1 station, lost mucus plug two days ago, steady cx, no blood/gush of fluid -- how far off is labor?

Early labor: From your question, my understanding is that you are having steady contractions. If this is the case and you are 35wks this is premature. You should contact your OB ASAP. If they are not persistent and are not more than 40secs, this my be prodromal or Braxton hicks and oral fluids will help. Either way you should contact your doctor. ...Read more

Will having an epiretinal membrane affect the success of cataract surgery. ?

Will having an epiretinal membrane affect the success of cataract surgery. ?

No and yes: Cataract surgery can be expertly performed and executed when there is an epiretinal membrane present. However, the visual acuity following cataract surgery may be disappointing because the epiretinal membrane is causing the poor vision, and removing the cataract did not make much of a difference. ...Read more

In the next 10 years will there be new glaucoma eye surgery procedures that make recovery easier & improve the success rate?

Yes: I'm excited about future innovations in glaucoma surgery as well new medications ;/or medication delivery systems. We already have newer and safer surgeries like canoloplasty, express shunt, i-stent, and other yet to be approved procedures. Optimistically, the next 10 years should expand our repertoire of glaucoma treatments that can be customized to the patients particular needs. ...Read more

Vitrectomy macular pucker Surgeon said 90% chance all mp removed,75% chance 20/20 vision or close, 25% chance better vision. 2% chance none. Right?

Vitrectomy macular pucker Surgeon said 90% chance all mp removed,75% chance 20/20 vision or close, 25% chance better vision. 2% chance none. Right?

Optimistic: it all depends on the starting vision before pucker surgery. I generally quote patients a 2 out of 3 chance of improving 2 or more lines on the eye chart, and a 1 in 3 chance of minimal improvement, though stabilization (no more worsening). Of course there are rare cases of poorer vision following surgery as well. Regarding distortion, it is almost always improved, but rarely completely gone. ...Read more

Preg loss of chromosome normal embryo 2 weeks after cardiac activity detection w/ immunosuppressant, anticoagulant treatments. Chance of future success?

Probably good, but: Impossible to say without tests. Early loss is very common and usually does not increase the risk of happening again. You need to be examined and tested to determine if you have a risk for a second (or more) losses. Good luck. ...Read more

Success rate of day 3 versus day 5 embryo transfer for IVF. Is one method more successful than the other?

Need more space: to give the full answer. Short answer: they're the same, it depends on the embryo number and embryo quality. Day 5 allows transfer of fewer embryos (less risk of multiples) while keeping rates at the sam level. Could write a book about this, please consult with your MD or could do an online consult full details. Your doc is always first choice! Good wishes. ...Read more

Chances for paper patch to help heal a 60% perforated tympanic membrane? Timeframe? 26yo. Is fibroblast growth factor offered in the US for TMP? Where

Faster than without: For a medium sized perforation like yours, a paper patch has about a 43.5% success rate, and repeat patches may be necessary. Fibroblast growth factor also has fairly good success rates in healing perforations, but you'll have to call around to various ENT doctors to see if they offer that at at let alone concomitantly with a paper patch. Most perforated TMs heal within 2 months. ...Read more
