Are there any drug interactions? I took 3mg melatonin at 1:30am, Aller-tec at 10:30 am, Lansoprazol at 11:30, and Benadryl (allergic reaction) at 12pm

Nighty night: The worst thing that'lll happen with those meds is that you'll probably get some much needed rest! LOL....I know cuz I've 4 teenagers of my own. At least you've got a good reason to be sleeping with the melatonin and Benadryl (diphenhydramine). That should put you down for a little snooze. Otherwise, you should be good. Do you really need all those drugs? Your pharmacist can also help you with drug interactions ...Read more

Is a 5mg tablet of melatonin safe to give an 11yr old child on a consistent basis? She has allergies, asthma, and takes Singular & an OTC allergy med.

No: We don't really know what melatonin does on a growing child. However it seems that you are trying to treat the symptoms and not the cause. The history suggests that nasal congestion and/or asthma may be the cause for his sleep problem and it is time for you to consider seeing an allergist since not getting enough sleep is just a small part of his problem. ...Read more

After just one night of useing xanax, (alprazolam) antihistamines or melatonin to induce sleep, I am awake the entire night! Never used to have this reaction. Why?

After just one night of useing xanax, (alprazolam) antihistamines or melatonin to induce sleep, I am awake the entire night! Never used to have this reaction. Why?

Not the right combo: Each of these meds can help sleep or agitate. Combining them all on the first night? Melatonin is mostly benign but when used with vitamin b6 (think 5 hour energy) agitation can result. Some brands still include b6. Antihistamines are known to produce agitation in susceptible people. They learn who they are. Xanax (alprazolam) has a rapid onset but the rapid stop can agitate and cause reuse (think addiction). ...Read more

I'm one of the rare people who have an adverse reaction to diphenhydramine, it makes me anxious and shaky. Is there any OTC sleep aid other than melatonin that does NOT contain diphenhydramine?

Not known: Although other OTC antihistamines may cause some drowsiness, the effect/side effect profiles are quite different. I am not aware of any OTC med used. By the way, I just saw a patient last week having the same reactions to Benadryl (diphenhydramine). ...Read more

If you take 1 to 2mg melatonin, will your body adapt which will result in you making less so you need more?

Doubtful: When people's sleep cycle is off, melatonin my mouth can help it adjust back to normal. Staying out of bright light is also helpful. Your dose is very low. Some people require 10 to 15 mg. It has no toxic effects and does not interact with any other medications. Reduce your dose to zero once your sleep cycle is back to normal. ...Read more

I took the doxepin 10mg over 2 hours ago n not even slightly tired can I take a 5mg melatonin too?

Combined sleep aides: Generally speaking, if you are not feeling sleepy from the sleep aide you've been prescribed and at least 30 minutes has passed, it's okay to take melatonin. Some patients routinely take melatonin alongside the prescription sleep aide and it seems to have a synergistic effect. If the melatonin alone works for you, though, taking just that and foregoing the prescription medication is a good option. ...Read more

Are there people who lethally overdose on melatonin?

Melatonin: Can accumulate in the liver with long periods of high dosage.
