Today is CD11.Does taking rigevidon for 2 weeks help functional ovarian cyst to shrink for the next cycle? Cyst measures 42mm and is filled with fluid
A cyst is a structure or mass that consists of a cellular lined sac. It is typically filled with fluid but may be filled with solid material. It can be congenital, traumatic, or acquired. They may develop nearly anywhere in the body and usually require complete excision for eradication or they are likely to recur. Fluid filled sacs that are not cellular lined ...Read more
Best preventative for chocolate cyst development. Would desogestrel work. Can't use combined pill. Already had a 10cm chocolate cyst removed once?
I had 8cm ovarian cyst and endometrial tissue removed. Is it necessary to take hormones such as lupron (leuprolide) to prevent a reoccurence?
No: Lupron (leuprolide) will help prevent recurrence while you are on it. However, Lupron (leuprolide) is usually used short term and it may recur after you stop it. Drugs such as birth control pills can be used long term and so may be more helpful. Still, going on hormones after surgery is not absolutely necessary. ...Read more
Is a 6cm by 7cm ovarian simple cyst classified as a large cyst? Will a cyst that size require surgery if its getting bigger despite taking medicine
Maybe: We usually consider cysts to be large if they are greater than 8 cm but that does vary some from institution to institution ( some set the line at 6 cm). Simple cysts are almost always benign and can be observed unless they are symptomatic. If they are enlarging, however, surgery may become necessary. Hope that helps. ...Read more
For prevention...: The ob-gyn doctor may recommend birth control pills to reduce the chance of new cysts developing in future menstrual cycles. Birth control pills regulate the menstrual cycle, to prevent the formation of follicles that can turn into cysts, and to possibly (but typically not) reduce the size of an existing cyst. ...Read more
My doc suggested me danocrine (danazol) (100mg) twice a day for pcos .Is it suitable for the treatment of poly cystic ovary syndrome?
I have left side ovary1.1cm cyst present. Please tell me which medicine is useful for me, either antibiotics or any other medications.
Physiologic event.: Of the cohort of maturing follicles at the beginning of the menstrual cycle, one matures and reaches a size of 18 to 20 mm at midcycle. The 13 mm cyst qualifies for the above description, which means you don't need medications or surgery. The ultrasound just picked up a physiologic event in a young woman. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends on many fact: Factors like the size, is it a simple cyst or not , is there any pain or not , if it is a simple fluid filled benign looking cyst that is not too large or causing too much pain then often times birth control pills can shrink the cyst and prevent future cysts from forming, if it is not simple then the diagnosis and txment options are totatlly differnet so the gyn can discuss all of this with you. ...Read more
When should lupron (leuprolide) be used to treat ovarian cysts? I have a functional & complex - keep growing and bc not stopping new cysts
It kind of: Depends on your symptoms. Are you in pain? Are the cysts large? Do you have endometriosis or pain? The medicine is not a cake walk in that it is expensive and will places into menopause with all the drawbacks. It may not resolve the cysts either. I am suprised they enlarge on the ocp. How long have u been on them? ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
What is your opinion about an ovarian cyst affecting sex drive? Depression can, and ovarian cysts I read can cause depression. Is there a link?
Sex drives & cysts: If the ovarian cyst has testosterone containing material inside it (male hormone) the sex drive will actually go up. Benign ovarian functional cysts are either estrogen generated or the after affects of ovulation of the corpus luteum which makes progesterone. Depression is usually not associated with either case unless it Is secondary to chronic pain from a large untreated ovarian cyst. ...Read more
Found septated ovarian cysts, 1.5cm and 4.5cm. Recurrence. Been taking pills since last surgery for removing endometrioma. Anything serious to worry?
No: Given your age, this is probably of low concern. Assuming you are not experiencing pain, i would follow these with ultrasound. If stable and not changing, you could consider doing nothing. ...Read more
I have recurring labial minora sebaceous cysts .. Rx from md is tds anti biotics for 3 months.... How can I reduce these incidences reoccurring?
You probably can't: Some women are prone to develop multiple cysts here, just as some men are prone to get dozens of these on the scrotum. It's probably genetic but the gene hasn't been found. They are a nuisance but not dangerous. Ignore them or have them removed -- your choice. I'm sorry for this inconvenience. Best wishes. Curious to know if any other physicians here know ways to manage this condition. ...Read more

Have epipidymitis and a hydrocele as a result of a varicocele repair. I'm taking antibiotics. Can i treat the hydrocele with ibuprofen or other med?
No, it's just...: Ibuprofen just eases inflammation and lessens pain. But post-varicocelectomy epididymitis and hydrocele may not pose a significant negative impact to your life; then, it's probably worthwhile just to watch and see. But for the ramifying issues after varicocele surgery should be addressed in collaboration with your surgeon and at times seek a second opinion. Best wish... ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a 8.4cm hypoechoic cystic lesion on my ovary. I saw an obgyn who wants to do a lap cystectomy. An oncologist suggested a laparotomy cystectomy. Which is more recommended? Cyst is complex and possibly endometrioma, hemorhaggic or dermoid.
Lap vs open: A laparoscopic approach is the minimally invasive approach. Open cystectomy is an old school way of doing things. Robotic cystectomy may be an option if your facility has one. I personally like the minimally invasive option of laparoscopy/robotic laparoscopy over open approach. Quicker recovery with the same outcomes if surgically equal at both. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
