Taking Zyprexa (olanzapine) to boost my Citalopram. Only been on 2.5mg for a month, now down to 1.25. how do I come off this drug (Zyprexa (olanzapine)) alltogether?
Low dose: Presumably you have found no benefit. 2.5 mg is a very low dose, perhaps too low to work. There are not withdrawal problems associated with this medicine. Iftaken together does geodon (ziprasidone) supersede zyprexa? Imade a mistake trying to change to geodon (ziprasidone) on my own as a potential drug I could switch to but bad
Not really: Adding Geodon (ziprasidone) to zyprexa could expose you to side effects from 2 antipsychotics, but one drug would not really "supercede" the other. Sometimes psychiatrists will do a cross-taper (lowering dose of 1 drug while gradually increasing dose of new one) when transitioning to a new medication. The hope is to relieve symptoms with less side effects. Hope you're working w/psychiatrist on on all this. ...Read more

Interactions always: The combination of 3 or more medications (especially any which are considered to be active within the brain) is almost always going to result in risk in some side effect that people may not like. Yes there are: Zyprexa (olanzapine) is the trade name for Olanzapine so you only have 3 unique drugs listed though some would argue that brand & generic named drugs are technically 2 distinct forms of chemical compounds. Probably, sometimes: Research has shown high doses of vit c, e, b3 ; b6 prevent tardive dyskinesia, a serious possible side effect of zyprexa (olanzapine). As for side effects, sometimes they fade over time but unfortunately not always. Reducing dose often helps-see comment:. ...Read more
