I have a peritonsillar abscess and a piece of my tonsil is hanging off. Should I be concerned? Should I try to remove it or will it fall off by itsel
Tonsillectomy: The tonsils exist to aid in fighting infection. Unfortunately when you have had numerous episodes of infection and this becomes chronic tonsillitis the changes in the tissue now make the tonsils a liability rather than a benefit and they may need to be removed. This would obviously prevent abscess from developing. See an ENT doctor. ...Read more

Had strep that turned to abscess. 8 months later and I still have pain and some swelling on that side. Now I have a cyst on tonsil. What is the issue?
Abscess now cyst: Greetings. I sympathize with you regarding your peritonsillar abscess. Some of my patients suffering the most are those with a PTA. The fact that you still have pain and swelling means that you may need further care and possibly even a tonsillectomy. I feel the cyst is probably unrelated however your surgeon will make that determination. Follow up with your ENT for a recheck. ...Read more

Is it necessary to take pus on swab in case of abscess in and around tonsil to detect bacteria? Or simple saliva around abscess can detect bacteria?
Abscess of tonsil: To get a good bacterial culture from the abscess it is necessary to use a culture swab on the pus itself. Getting a swab of the saliva around the area is not likely to get a good result. Additionally, if the abscess is drained with a needle, then the material from the syringe can be sent on culture swabs. ...Read more
Diagnosed with tonsillitis and tiny abscess on my tonsil. I was given antibodics, didn't drain. A month later no pain just still swollen. Wats wrong?
Left tonsil very swollen. Told doesn't look abscessed right now. Strep rapid test was very very faint. Machine read negative but APRN saw faint line?
Get strep culture!!!: The rapid strep text has a FALSE NEGATIVE RATE of up to 30%. Hospitals are required by regulatory agencies to send all negative rapid streps for confirming strep cultures. This isn't done in many outpatient settings & is a serious failure because strep is missed & complications develop. Insist on a strep culture, not a throat culture which isn't necessary, is expensive & takes 4 days. See comment ...Read more

Yes, that sounds like "normal"recovery.
Each and every succeeding day you should be getting better (swelling, pain, fever, voice, etc).
Please take the medication as advised/prescribed, and especially complete the antibiotics course.
In about 7 - 10 days after the procedure you should have recovered back to your normal healthy self.

Can staph aureus produce pus inside tonsils instead of abscess? And without tonsil inflammation. Please answer I am worried
Daughter's tonsils are huge/lumpy. She's had a near abscess, tonsillitis, and strep. Anything I can do at home to help? I hate so many antiobiotics.
Confusing question: You state she "had" a? near abscess? and strep. Tonsils grow faster than the kids until 6-8 when they all usually look relatively large. This size difference declines, and by 16 they are relatively small. Recurrent infections can keep them large. Antibiotics are fine when used judiciously and can prevent lifelong complications. Good hand washing habits help decrease any childhood illness. ...Read more
