A fracture is a broken bone. As there is cartilage at the end of many bones at the joint, a fracture may also include a break in the cartilage. Fractures and broken bones are the same thing. It seems that many believe that a "fracture" is a lesser injury or an incomplete break in the bone, but this is not correct. Fractures may be displaced or ...Read more

Tibia fracture with two screws placed surgically. How many months do I have to wait to get them removed? What will recovery from the removal be like?
Usually 8 months or: More. Most will leave hardware well after the fracture is healed. Between 8 months to a year after implantation, it can be safe to remove if needed. Removal recommended only if symptomatic or troublesome. Fracture healing is primary concern, many screws and hardware constructs can remain implanted indefinitely, if not causing symptoms. Screw removal recovery is 2 weeks if the bone is healed. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
It varies: A non complicated tibia fracture usually heals in any where between 6-12 weeks. If you have already had a tibia fracture which did not heal, which is what a nonunion is, it really depends on the nature of your problem and the type of surgery done. In the best cases scenario, it will heal in6-8 weeks. In the worst, it may not heal again. You would sure want to avoid nicotine and nsaids. Thanks. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
It is 11 months since i got serious tibia fracture , I have been operated , now there is a narrow hole with clear non smell discharge, what is it?
Stability or biology: There are two different types of non unions. In one case the body does not form any bone. This is called an atrophic non union, this requires bone grafting to stimulate the bone to heal. There are several types of bone grafts that can be perfomred. Hypertrophic non unions or bones that dont heal but have the ability to make bone do not need a bone graft they just need more stability. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I have a distal tibia fracture. The swelling at the fracture site did not fully resolve after twelve weeks of surgery. Internal fixation. Why?
Tibia fracture - surgery to repair tibia may 5th - have been out of my cast 3-4 weeks, recently able to bear weight, tibia still swells, this normal?
Post Injury swelling: When you injured your tibia the energy of the injury was also absorbed by the skin muscle and tissue that surrounds the tibia injuring these structures as well and disrupting their normal state. Swelling is a result of this as these tissues repair themselves. You may experience swelling for as long as 12 to 18 months after injury and in some cases it does not resolve. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Will a nondisplaced tibia fracture(not growth plate fracture) change the height of the bone once fully healed?
I had a non-displaced small lower distal tibia fracture almost two weeks ago. I can walk with very minimal pain. Should i continue to wear the boot?
I would: It is hard to say without knowing the specifics. But wearing the boot will make it much less likely you will injure to ankle and potentially cause displacement of the fracture. Even if you are feeling better, it still takes six to eight weeks for a tibial fracture. Thank you for the question. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Depends!: It depends on how displaced the fracture is! Some fractures have minimal displacement and no reduction is necessary. Surgery depends on the type of fracture, degree of displacement, other injuries, your state of health, etc. The orthopedist doing the treatment, will be able to answer your questions exactly. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Unlikely to be a : fracture based on the description you gave. A fracture will give you significantly worse symptoms than just tenderness. Chances are you have bruised the soft tissues of the shin, which is very common. I've proximal tibia fracture and its been 4 months now I'm trying to bend my knee wid cpm machine I've reached 80° but More than tat it pains a lot y?
Stiffness from cast: I assume you leg was immobilized during the healing of your tibia fracture. Any joint that is immobilized for any significant length of time (more than 7-10 days) would get stiff. Physical therapy working on motion after the cast or splint/brace is removed should allow knee to regain essentially full functional motion with time (6-12 weeks). ...Read more
