At 20 weeks, most if not all of the fetus' organs are fully formed and thus it is doubtful that much can affect its development. Regardless, losing asthma control poses a much higher risk for both the mother and the baby. Ask for budesonide if worried. ...Read more

What OTC med can I give a 11 yo child w/ history severe allergies who forgot inhaler that has a cc of sob and chest tightness before going to er?
If I start taking allergy shots, can I stop using an inhaler before running? * The inhaler (with albuterol) is only used during high pollen seasons.
Possible: Since only 80% of the people respond to allergy shots, you may be able to avoid using albuterol before exercise if you are in the 80% group. However the probability is likely under 10%. Try exercising without using the albuterol and see what happens. Do realize that allergy shots usually take several months to provide benefit and controlling your nasal symptoms may improve asthma as well. ...Read more

My daughter has yellow gook in her eyes and they are also watery. She does have allergies which she takes Flonase and an inhaler for! Is the yellow discharge caused by allergies as welll? And if so what can I give her?
Antihistamine: Although discharge from allergies is usually clear/watery, there can be some yellow/thicker appearance to it. Both eyes is more suggestive of allergy than infection. Consider over the counter antihistamine like zyrtec or Claritin (loratadine) for children. If it worsens, or the lids are matted together then an antibiotic drop may be needed. If the allergies cont.
