How long do I have to wait after taking rifampin to get pregnant?

How long do I have to wait after taking rifampin to get pregnant?

Maybe a week: The question is why are you on rifampin? The drug is eliminated relatively quickly (half of it gone every 5-6 hours), so should be gone in a few days - a week to be sure. If you have tb, you need to be cured before pregnancy preferably. If you have leprosy or brucellosis, cure would be really good, too. Otherwise, the drug itself should be gone within a week. ...Read more

Hi im taking rifampin for almost 3months and I need to take OC because I had unprotected sex. Which pills will work?

Stop unprotected sex: That means stopping "unprotected" activities, by using other protection. One can consider an IUD or condoms. That can also mean stopping "sex", which can be simply done for 3 months (3 months is a short time). Birth control pills are less reliable (hard to say how much less) while a person takes rifampin, which may decrease the effectiveness of hormonal birth control such as pills, patch, or ring. ...Read more

Take the rifampin: Rifampin often is used along with vancomycin or other antibiotics to treat some infections, especially if caused by staph bacteria and/or in a devitalized area, e.g. poor blood flow to the infected area. If your doctor prescribed rifampin, take it as directed. An infectious diseases specialist should be involved in cases like this. If not, ask your doctor to request ID consultation. ...Read more

I have just started rifampin on it for 2 days. I feel like my heart is racing and my urine is redish orange?

Rifampin: Do not know why your "heart is racing", but unlikely to be due to Rifampin unless an allergic phenomenon. The color of your urine is due to Rifampin and you should have been told about this when given the drug. It is a harmless occurrence, and although many people think that they are bleeding it is only excretion of metabolites of this medication. ...Read more

Can TB be treat with rifampin (RIF), pyrazinamide (PZA), and ethambutol (EMB) only??? Just stop INH due the high enzymes waiting for the next treat

Yes: Santa Clara TB control is very good and will advise you and your doctor of any further changes based on nature of the TB infection (lung vs other sites), duration of treatment so far, susceptibility of the TB isolates, and other factors. However, if lab abnormality is with liver enzymes, usually rifampin is held as well. ...Read more

M 20 yr female TB lymphadenitis. Prescribed R-cinex:Rifampin 450mg & isoniazid 300mg & pyzina 1000mg. Ethambutol not prescribed is my treatment correct?

TB treatment: We usually use Ethambutol as part of this regimen in case the TB is resistant to either Rifampin or isoniazid. If your doctor already knows which drugs the big is susceptible to, or if resistance rates are very low in your area, leave out the Ethambutol may be the correct treatment. You should discuss this issue with the prescribing doctor. ...Read more

TB treatment: You are being treated with 4 medications which is good - since it doesn't allow the TB bacteria any good chance of 'escaping' from the treatment. Hopefully only 1 drug is really needed- but I expect you may find that out in the future. Your ethambutol dose and pyrazinamide doses could be a little bit higher, but I am not worried. INH & Rif are the main drugs for treating this & they r dosed well. ...Read more

I am starting to take Pyrazinamide, Rifampin and Ethambutol but also I have RA and I start to fell pain in my joints again is safe to take HYDROcodone?

It's not unsafe: But may or may not be the best answer. There are multiple medications, both new and old, to treat rheumatoid arthritis, and reduce the painful joints by actually reducing the arthritis itself. Hydrocodone or any other opioid will reduce pain somewhat, but carry risks of escalating doses, dependency and even eventually INCREASING the pain itself. It should be used short-term. Been takin rifampin on bc pills, sex on sept 2nd took planb same day, period came on sept 26th, numerous neg hpt. Nipples tender, possibility of preg?

Maybe not pregnant: If a woman has a normal period and a negative pregnancy test after her period, she is very unlikely to be pregnant. If the pregnancy test is repeated 5-7 days later and is still negative, that just confirms that she is not pregnant then. Of course, she might get pregnant a few days later, because she might be ovulating if her birth control pills are not being taken right or not working properly. ...Read more

How does taking isoniazid (not rifampin) affect the effectiveness of oral contraceptive?

No presuming: I presume this is for a +PPD and/or latent TB or related organism. There is no specific interaction with OC's, but since INH/Isoniazid affects so many hepatic or liver cytochromes that it is best to discuss with the physician prescribing the Isoniazid or with an OB/GYN.
