Hi my two and a half year old son has a high temperature of 102.4 degrees and he is breathing fast is that normal? I gave him medicine.
Common issue: Most fever in infants starts out as a viral illness & many will self heal. The normal effect of fever on breathing rate is to increase it by up to 5 breaths /min/degree. At two the regular rate range is 24- 40. It should not cause baby to look like they are struggling to breathe. As long as baby takes fluids well enough to pee every 6 hrs, home monitoring is ok, if not have eval. ...Read more

My 10 month old will breathe really shallow or even pause in his breathing for 10-20 seconds while awake, should I be concerned?
If he is growing and developing normally, without any air hunger, rapid breathing or upper airway noise, it is probably within normal variation in breathing pattern.
If you notice snoring problems with his development, excessive sleepiness, I would recommend an evaluation. ...Read more

Periodic breathing: Pauses in breathing in the neonates are called "periodic breathing". It occurs in 80% of full term and 100% of preterm babies. These pauses are usually brief (3 seconds). If they are brief and are not associated with changes in color (cyanosis or pallor) or a drop in heart rate, then it does not require treatment and resolve with time (by 44 weeks post-conception). ...Read more

No such miracle: You will need to reduce the carb intake (alcohol and sugar) and get on a high-protein or nearly vegan diet. But regular exercise is the key. You can start with walking more- just 10 mins here and there add up (get a pedometer?). Weight training will also be needed- just enough for you to feel some resistance. Evergreen trees do not usually produce allergens. Now get with the program. ...Read more
