For over 5 years I've been experiencing severe bruising pain in my rectum/anus at night. I've googled it and proctalgia fugax comes up. Please advise.
Can proctalgia fugax be the reason for painful bowel movements? Pain is not severe and doesn't last long.
Probably not: Proctalgia is a spasm of the muscles around the rectum. Generally it is like any muscle cramp (leg, foot) - spontaneous and without any precipitating reason. Intestinal pain: With a diagnosis made from such big words you probably have seen a GI specialist. If not find one. Spasms can be intense and it is confusing to the normal stool and gas release management. I the meantime try frequent bathing. Try a hemmeroid cream at bed time.
