Please educate me on prilosec 40 mg. And its effect on other meds I take for lupus, FM, Allergies, n if any contraindication with pain meds? Thank you
Have had chronic allergies since I was young. I have acid reflux and post nasal drip pretty bad. Started prilosec, and nasacort (triamcinolone). Anything else to add?
Avoidance measures: In addition to a daily intranasal steroid spray like Nasacort, (triamcinolone) it is important to determine exactly what you could be sensitized to in order to practice appropriate avoidance measures which is a mainstay of allergy treatment. If medications and avoidance are not effective or not feasible allergen immunotherapy (allergy shots) could be an option as well. See an allergist for skin testing. ...Read more

ALLERGIC REACTION: You may be having an allergic reaction to the Azithromycin. You need to be examined promptly and have labs checked (Especially Eosinophil level) I normally would treat with a prednisone taper over 8 days. If symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing go to nearest ER. ...Read more

I started taking Plavix once a day and I also take Prevacid (lansoprazole) and on occasion Prilosec. Is there any interactions with these drugs?
Absolutely: There is a well know interaction between plavix and proton pump inhibitors. Plavix is a prodrug (inactive) and is activated in the liver. This process of activation is blocked by proton oump inhibitors. Specifically with nexium and prilosec, also somewhat with other ppis. The only one safe to use is dexilant (dexlansoprazole) and possibly protonix. Or change plavix to effient or brilinta under guidance of MD ...Read more

I have been taking Prilosec for 10 years. Trying to wean off with Zantac (ranitidine) 150/2 daily. Is there another drug I could use. Zantac (ranitidine) is giving me anxiety?
Not at all: No they are all, as you said PPI's and appear to provide similar relief. Some are more expensive than others and drug companies would like you to believe their PPI works better than the generic. It is my belief that in general, you should stick with generic medications. Do not fall for the marketing hype. ...Read more

No bad interactions: These 4 medications don't have reported interaction problems. It seems you've had of pain problems in addition to asthma and must also have acid reflux. Probably. But bad.:
This doesn't contain any ingredients that one would expect would cause abdominal pain or aggravate an ulcer, but it does contain belladonna, which the fda rates as unsafe. That said, the amount of actually anything in many homeopathic products is basically none.

On Prilosec for preventing n protecting stomach from the RA drugs effect. So I use it as a preventive measure. When should I take it Morning or b4 bed?
Before a meal: Omeprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as PPIs. These proton pump inhibitors work optimally on meal-stimulated acid secretion. For this reason I generally suggest taking them 30-45 minutes before breakfast or lunch and for most people's schedules the am is most convenient. ...Read more

Not really. ..: Prilosec (omeprazole) was the 1st introduced in a class of meds called proton pump inhibitors (ppi).Others are zantac, aciphex, (rabeprazole) protonix, nexium, prevacid, &the newest: zapidex. Those: Those are very concerning symptoms. It sounds like you have done a very good job in getting her in to specialists, but if she is still having vomiting, then that is very concerning. Am unaware of issues: With any form of oral contraception and the medications listed. The decision should be based on your lifestyle issues, preferences, potential side effects and cost. Your family physician or an ob/gyn (or np/pa-c, as the case may be) can better advise you. It is probably going to be more of an issue in terms of other habits, particularly smoking. Best recommended OTC drug for random heartburn? No prilosec. Tums (calcium carbonate) and rolaids make me vomit. Nothing to chew. Rather a preventative than an as needed.
How about behaviors?: Assuming you have tried ranitidine (otc), here are some thoughts. Heartburn is caused by acidic stomach contents sloshing up into the less protected esophagus, and it can be brought on by acidic or spicy foods, alcohol, coffee, etc. If you are overweight or pregnant, you are more prone to heartburn because of the greater pressure in your belly. Eating late at night may bring it on, as can smoking. ...Read more
