Is it safe to take plavix and cymbalta (duloxetine)? I heard that is not a good drug combination

Is it safe to take plavix and cymbalta (duloxetine)? I heard that is not a good drug combination

With caution: There is a caution about combining the two agents as both can increase the risk of bleeding, by different mechanisms. This however would be true of any serotonergic antidepressant. You should discuss any concerns you have the prescribing physicians. ...Read more

What pain medicine is safe to take with plavix (clopidogrel)?

What pain medicine is safe to take with plavix (clopidogrel)?

Avoid NSAIDs/Aspirin: Nonsteroidal-antiinflammatory drugs (nsaids-such as motrin/aleve) and aspirin-based analgesic can interact with Plavix (clopidogrel) and increases risk of bleeding/stomach and intestinal ulcers/performation etc. Otherwise narcotic pain killers (some mixed with tylenol) are ok to take while being on plavix (clopidogrel). Like all medicine, use the smallest effective dose for shortest duration possible. Consult doc. Good luck. ...Read more

I started taking Plavix once a day and I also take Prevacid (lansoprazole) and on occasion Prilosec. Is there any interactions with these drugs?

I started taking Plavix once a day and I also take Prevacid (lansoprazole) and on occasion Prilosec. Is there any interactions with these drugs?

Absolutely: There is a well know interaction between plavix and proton pump inhibitors. Plavix is a prodrug (inactive) and is activated in the liver. This process of activation is blocked by proton oump inhibitors. Specifically with nexium and prilosec, also somewhat with other ppis. The only one safe to use is dexilant (dexlansoprazole) and possibly protonix. Or change plavix to effient or brilinta under guidance of MD ...Read more

After placement of four drug eluting stents two years ago I have been on plavix (clopidogrel) since and want to quit. My cardiologist is ambivilant. Help.?

Risk benefit: Are you on Aspirin too? The standard of care is to cover with both Aspirin and Plavix (clopidogrel) for atleast a year and then be on Aspirin lifelong. But if you have no other problems (GI bleed etc) you must continue to be on both the drugs. If you are only on Plavix (clopidogrel), then you must continue to take it. .. to prevent future cardiovascular events. ...Read more

Is plavix (clopidogrel) a good drug for asthmatic patients with o type blood?

In what sense the new plavix (clopidogrel) replacement drug is better for CAD patients?

In what sense the new plavix (clopidogrel) replacement drug is better for CAD patients?

More potent: Plavix (clopidogrel) now has competitor drugs. Effient (prasugrel) is more potent at inhibiting platelets, which prevents clots, but this also leads to higher bleeding risk (double-edged sword). Ticagrelor is another agent with proven benefits similar to Plavix (i.e. Heart attack risk reduction), and seems to be more potent without increasing bleeding, but verdict is out still. ...Read more

If you have a stent that is drug coated, do you have to take plavix (clopidogrel) and aspirin forever?

My husband has 3 medicine coated stents and has been on plavix (clopidogrel) since. How long does he have to stay on plavix (clopidogrel)? His bruising and bleeding is unreal!

Typically: The recommendation after receiving drug coated stents is dual antiplatelet therapy for 1 year. That is Aspirin and drugs like plavix (clopidogrel). Certainly there will be exceptions for many reasons. See your cardiologist before stopping any meds. There is a real risk of the stent thrombosing if Plavix (clopidogrel) is stopped too soon. ...Read more

Are there any alternative drug treatments to Plavix (clopidogrel) for stroke from both Carotid Artery50%Blockages which don't cause adverse effects of GI Bleeding?

Are there any alternative drug treatments to Plavix (clopidogrel) for stroke from both Carotid Artery50%Blockages which don't cause adverse effects of GI Bleeding?

Not really: All medications used after an ischemic stroke (cholesterol plaque rupture causing an interruption in blood flow) are treated with blood thinners. Some people are more sensitive to certain ones, so if you've had a GI bleed while on Plavix (clopidogrel), (clopidogrel) then talk to your neurologist. Plavix (clopidogrel) is usually the best, but start with aspirin 182 mg daily. If you still have strokes, then Aggrenox is the next step up. ...Read more

Is rivaroxaban xalerto safe and good drug for preventing stroke in Afib compared to aspirin and plavix (clopidogrel) together in72 yr man with hypertension, s.cr1.56?

Xalerto is best: His CHA2DS2-VASc score is 2 (age and presence of hypertension). All studies have concluded that the benefit from anticoagulation significantly exceeds the risks for almost all AF patients with a score of 2 or more. Xalerto will more effectively reduce his risk of stroke and won't increase his risk of bleeding. ...Read more

Can Plavix replace Eloquis or Zarelto & is it milder than the two?

No. Arterial vs veno: Plavix represents an entirely different class of blood thinners than Eliquis & Xarelto. Plavix (Clopidogrel) is an ARTERIAL blood thinner & stabilizes cholesterol plaques that are found in arteries. Eliquis / Xarelto are VENOUS (atrial) blood thinners that prevent pooled blood from clotting. The choice depends on the type of disease (arterial or venous?). TTYD or use HealthTap Prime to discuss.
