Distinctly rare: Caffeine allergy is distinctly unusual. There have only been case reports and it is not entirely clear that these were true ige mediated reactions. There is some guidance in literature on how to test for suspected caffeine allergy. ...Read more
Extremely rare: There are 2 case reports of caffeine allergy published and both are from Spain. One patient had hives and the other had anaphylaxis. There is a higher likelihood of workers in the coffee bean industry developing work related asthma from the inhaling the dust of coffee beans before they are roasted. ...Read more
How would I go about confirming a caffeine allergy/ intolerance? When I consume caffeine I have what seems to be an anaphylactic reaction.
Distinctly Unusual: Caffeine allergy is unusual but has been reported in the literature. After speaking to your allergist and clarifying your history, there are several options that could be explored. Skin testing could be done but there is no standardized skin test reagents for caffeine thus the results must be interpreted with care. I have anxiety. Is it possible to have an allergy to caffeine? If I only have 1 cup of coffee a day I've noticed an increase in shakiness and headrush
Why after a cup of tea i felt cold flu and restless accompany by dizziness.am i allergy to caffeine or tea leave?
Allergy, intolerance, or viral? I get vertigo when I eat nuts, chocolate and caffeine, and basic dizziness from other foods. Started after shingles.
Inner ear issues?: If the nerves related to your inner ear get swollen they could easily result in feelings of vertigo/dizziness. Perhaps the foods are causing the nerves to swell? Post nasal drip and eustachian tube dysfunction might do it. Chinese medicine or cranial osteopathy might help. Diazepam is a western medication that would effectively treat symptoms. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
I notice after every time I drink coffee I have shortness of breath, is this a side effect of caffeine or an allergy?
Is it more likely to have an allergy to caffeine, or stimulants in general? Skin rashes appear on lower face and upper chest. Testing for this?
Quite rare: I don' recall ever seeing someone allergic to caffeine. As each stimualnt drug is quite different chemically from others an allergy to all stimulants is even less likely. There is also no skin or blood test for such an allergy but that doesn't mean it can't be done. A double-blind challenge is the method used to establish a relationship between a cause & an effect. Your local allergist can help. ...Read more

Substance&med abuse : You shouldn't do what you just did. All of what you just took cause your heart to beat fast or even arrhythmia or irregular heart beats. Intolerance: Intolerance NOT allergy. The symptoms you describe are all classic signs of an intolerance to caffeine. It seems like you are more sensitive than most to its effects. This is not a true allergy to caffeine, is not life-threatening, and does not require an epinephrine injector. ...Read more
Significantly reduced my caffeine intake recently and now my allergies, throat tightening etc., seem somewhat worse. Correlation or imagination?
No.: Caffeine has been shown to help with bronchodilation (relaxation of the small tubes in your lungs) which helps with air movement. Asthmatics have noted slight symptomatic benefit after ingesting caffeine. This may help your "allergies" depending on what those symptoms may be. Your dose of caffeine would also have to be taken into consideration. ...Read more
Head pressure on top of head/around ears on/off 4 a wk. Dizzy but no pain. Seems 2 occur after caffeine intake. No prior caffeine issues-new allergy?
When I drink caffeine, even weak tea, I get massive headaches/migranes and abdominal cramps and need the loo a lot. Is this an allergy or an intollerce or something else? And can you recomend alternatives for quick pick-me-ups?
Caffeine side effect: Those symptoms are side effects of the world's most-consumed stimulant; avoid it if intolerant to it. In our fast-paced society, there's a tendency to want a push-button quick-fix; I've had patients request a med to wake up, one to sleep, one to calm down, one to feel energetic, all at same appointment. Natural pick-me-up: exercise (my wife loves running in place for about 15 to 30 seconds). ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
