I have been given three shots of steroids for allergies and I am taking 5 mg of prednisolone a day. I have a serious stomach ache can I take a librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide)?

Stop prednisone: Prednisone is not to be used regular for allergic diseases on a routine basis. It can induce ulcer not to mention many other serious side effects when used regularly. You need to get another opinion re. Managing your allergies. If your problem is that severe so as to require prednisone, it's time to consult an allergist. ...Read more

Yes be careful: Omeprazole can cause elevated serum levels of benzodiazepines. Main effect would be over sedation with the librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide). Thea is no absolute contraindications to taking the two together but monitor your drowsiness, etc. May need to cut down on Librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) dose. ...Read more

Can one of my medicines be causing my tinnitus? I'm on sertraline, famotidine, librax, (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) & Mag-Ox. I'm only on day 5 of the sertraline.

Can one of my medicines be causing my tinnitus? I'm on sertraline, famotidine, librax, (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) & Mag-Ox. I'm only on day 5 of the sertraline.

Assuming new: I am assuming you have had the tinnitus since starting one of the meds. Zoloft (sertraline) can do this. I would perhaps talk to your doctor about holding it. If it doesn't go away, I would check for an acute inflamation of the middle ear such as a viral infection ...Read more

Experiences with librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide)?

An irrational drug: If this drug were to seek approval today, it would be refused. Combinations of antispasmodic drugs with tranquilizers and sedatives (including barbiturates) were very popular in the 60s and 70s. They are used mostly to treat irritable bowel syndrome. The best treatment starts with more fiber in diet, and then antispasmodic drugs. Tranquillizers are rarely indicated, and can cause dependency. ...Read more

Anyone have bad experiences with librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide)?

What kind of bad?: Librax (clinidium and chlordiazepoxide) is a very old (and in my opinion obsolete and irrational) drug, containing a tranquilizer (since the thought is people with irritable bowel symptoms are all anxious) and an antispasmodic. Both can cause significant side effects, including constipation, urinary retention, excessive sedation, slow heart rate, dizziness and lightheadedness. There are better treatments for IBS. ...Read more

Upper abdominal comp: You complain of “gastritis” complaint not responding to usual treatment. Note that upper abdomen complaints are not necessarily related to the stomach. Being young and female I assume pregnancy excluded. Liver and pancreas pains refer to upper abdomen. Even some colon and ovarian problems can cause upper abdomen symptoms. Stomach lining damage (alcohol , meds) can cause treatment resistance. ...Read more

Dear Sir,

Please let me know the difference between Librax( Chlordiazepoxide + Clidinium bromide) and Levosulpiride

Can I use them both or should I ?

Librax is a combo of: a benzodiazepine (chlordiazepoxide) and an antispasmodic (Clidinium bromide). Levosulpiride (not approved in the US) is an antipsychotic medication. Both may treat irritable bowel syndrome. The latter would have more significant risks. It is best to review with your prescriber for treatment appropriate to your situation. Best regards. ...Read more
