Why was intal (cromolyn) inhaler removed from the market? I used to use it, and it helped.

No: Intal (cromolyn) is a mast cell stablizer and has stopped being produced because it only came as a cfc inhaler. Once it was mandated that all inhalers be hfa-based, it stopped being stocked in us pharmacies. The company who made it did not pursue making it as an hfa. Some of my patients have been able to get it through canada. ...Read more

How effective is intal (cromolyn sodium) whenused in a nebulizer?

How effective is intal (cromolyn sodium) whenused in a nebulizer?

Fair: Cromolyn is effective for a subclass of patients with asthma. We lack a blood or other test to identify those persons who are likely to respond so you have to try everyone. The trial requires administration 4x/day for 30 days. Its hard for many people to stay on this schedule so some people who might be helped do not benefit. Once shown to work some folks can take cromolyn 3x or twice a day. ...Read more

What are intal and symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) turbuhaler for?

What are intal and symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) turbuhaler for?

Asthma controllers: Both are used as medications that control the underlying inflammation of asthma. Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) also contains a long-acting bronchodilator that provides immediate relief of asthma symptoms. Cromolyn does not do this. Symbicort (budesonide and formoterol) is much more effective. Cromolyn is a bit safer. The difference is moot. Cromolyn (intal) is no longer available on the american market. ...Read more

I'm curious as to what is the best medicine to cure allergy?

No cure yet, but...: Allergy shots (allergen immunotherapy) is currently the only treatment that is disease modifiying, meaning it can change how the body responds to exposure to allergens. It is "natural" and long lasting effects carry on after shots are stopped. It works for most, but not all people. Closest thing to a cure so far..... For more read my blog at: http://www. What is the best OTC allergy medicine?

OTC Allergy: Not fair. Truly, it is trial-and-error. What works best for you might not work best for someone else. What medicine to take for seasonal allergies?

Several choices: The most effective treatment for relief of seasonal allergies are prescription nasal steroid sprays (qnasl, nasonex, (mometasone) rhinocort, flonase). If symptoms are mild then over the counter zyrtec, claritin, or Allegra can help. It's best to start treating seasonal allergies before the "season" starts. This is a prevention approach.
