Exercise is good: Exercise is good for HBP/ cholesterol/ diabetes/ weight and even to help quit smoking.
It is unlikely you will need cholesterol medicine at your age, unless LDL cholesterol is very high and HDL very low. I would insist on exercise and repeat cholesterol levels in 6-12 month.
