Hydrochlorothiazide safety during breastfeeding? When pass in milk can cause sulpha allergy to baby?

Good question: The American Academy of Pediatrics states that it is safe to breastfeed while on Hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ), (compatible with nursing). As for it to sensitize the infant to sulpha drugs later on, unlikely, as even patients who are allergic to supha antibiotics can still receive diuretics as furosemide (lasix) and HCTZ, (hydrochlorothiazide) wish you and your child wellness ...Read more

Will an antibiotic allergy go away on its own? I got hives from Hydrochlorothiazide on my face & chest. I've been using Benadryl (diphenhydramine) & water gels for pain

Yes: But the time it takes for remission to occur (if it goes away at all) depends on the medication. People with sulfa allergy almost never loses the allergy but those with penicillin allergy tend to lose it in 5-6 years. Do note that hydrochlorothiazide is not a common allergen and you should consider seeing an allergist to document this allergy. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) gel for pain? Does it work? ...Read more

Severe allergy to sulfa drugs as child. Have taken Imitrex and hctz for years off and on w no prob. Would I be ok taking celebrex (celecoxib)?

Probably: Although the sulfur molecule is in Celebrex (celecoxib), (celecoxib) only a few people with allergies to sulfa antibiotics also react to Celebrex (celecoxib). The allergy appears to be related to a special form of sulfur at the molecular level. This form isn't present in non-antibacterial meds with sulfur in them. But talk to your doc about it & tell him your concerns. See http://tinyurl. Com/ohak2hx and http://tinyurl. Com/kzu9o6f ...Read more

Is there any high blood pressure medicine without hydrochlorothiazide?

Is there any high blood pressure medicine without hydrochlorothiazide?

Absolutely!: No BP med has HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) unless it's marked "XXX-HCT". Manufacturers provide the combination for convenience because HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is often used with other meds and it doesn't add any cost to the manufacture, but all meds come without it. ...Read more

How long before hydrochlorothiazide works? My blood pressure was just a little high, so my doctor put me on just hydrochlorothiazide to see if it will work without other blood pressure drugs. How long before my blood pressure will go down?

Usually within days: Within a few days you should start to see an effect -- but, hctz, hydrochlorothiazide, is not a strong drug. Your best way to lower BP is to not exceed 1500 mg of salt per day and to exercise 30 minutes daily assuming your doctor is ok with these recommendations. ...Read more

Promethazine: Promethazine is a drug that is used to manage common cold, allergic reactions and is sometimes combined with other drugs, such as dextromethorphan, to suppress cough (see the link below). It belongs to a class of drugs known as antihistaminics. Promethazine has many side effects and several important drug-drug interactions. One important side effect is drowsiness, which can become significant at higher doses. Operating machinery or driving may become dangerous while taking promethazine. Overdose of Promethazine could result in respiratory arrest and death. Other sedatives such as alcohol, narcotics, tricyclic antidepressants enhance the sedating properties of promethazine. Administration of Promethazine has been associated with reported cholestatic jaundice. Edema (swelling) has also been associated with promethazine. From your description it appears that you may be having potentially serious side effects of this medication. You should stop taking it and see a doctor. ...Read more

Can you tell me for hypertension which drug out of fosinopril, telmisartan, oxenoprolol, felodipine, hydrochlorothiazide, amilord?

BP med?: If the patient has angina, a beta-blocker may be the agent of choice, not necessarily oxenoprolol. If the patient has proteinuria, then either fosinopril (F) or telmisartan (T) would be excellent choices to reduce both the blood pressure. Felodipine and amlodopine can be used and may cause some leg swelling. Hydrochlorthiazide can be effective and causes loss of potassium and magnesium. Go for F. ...Read more

Took hctz (hydrochlorothiazide) for two days. Breast milk supply has immediately, drastically reduced. Will my supply come back if I stop the medicine?

Unknown: Diuretics or "water pills" should not directly affect your breast milk production...But if it is dehydrating you, I suppose that it could.

Talk to your doc about stopping it and/or really increasing your fluid intake and see if that helps.

Good luck! ...Read more
