Are generic versions of Robitussin (guaifenesin) just as harmful as Robitussin (guaifenesin) itself if you overdose?
I just took Robutussin, but I forgot I had Mucinex, (guaifenesin) which is better for my symptoms. Can I now take the mucinex, (guaifenesin) or will the two drugs interact?
There are several: Different formulations of Robitussin and several different formulations of Mucinex (guaifenesin). Some contain identical drugs to each other and others do not. Since you have not specified, it would be best to wait the appropriate amount of time per the directions on the bottle and then make the switch to another agent rather than risk doubling up. It should only be 6 hours till your next dose so you can wait. ...Read more
Possibly: Salbutamol would be helpful if your child was wheezing, and the medication helped to relieve those symptoms. Guaifenesin would not be recommended in children under 4 years of age. If they have a cough severe enough needing medication at this age, they need to be seen by their physician. ...Read more
What is a good mucolytic/expectorant drug? Immediate-release 400mg guaifenesin doesn't help that much, even after taking more than recommended.
Expectoration: Hydration and more hydration is the key. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is somewhat effective. Mucomyst pills may also help. However, in a generally healthy individual, without underlying lung disease, hydration and time should do most of the work. Eucalyptus oil seems to work in some people, mostly in inhaled form. Please discuss with ur Doctor prior to staring any regiment. ...Read more

Can I take Mucinex (guaifenesin) for sinusitis? If not is there any other over-the-counter medicine alternative to clindomycin?
They're different.: Clindamycin is an antibiotic that is not commonly used for initial treatment of sinusitis. Mucinex (guaifenesin) is a medication that may help you because it loosens thick mucus. Also try a decongestant like pseudoephedrine (e.g., Sudafed) and saline sinus rinses for best results. It is not recommended to start antibiotics for sinusitis unless not improving after 7 days. ...Read more
My mother has been misusing the drug Mucinex (guaifenesin) in order to get high. She has been using it for years. Every dose gets bigger. I'm worried.
Your mom needs you and whomever else cares for her to intervene and get her to medical attention and drug rehabilitation.
I took Mucinex (guaifenesin) last night and now today I have solid stool but it's green. Should I be concerned? Or is it just the medicine passing through?
No concern: It is really hard to determined the exact reason for the color of the stool if the medicine liquid or gel or tablet has a green color to it might contribute to that but in general I will not be too concern about that concentrate on the main issue your URI hydrate well eat soups and rest ...Read more
How does a doctor differentiates which medicine to prescribe patient between promethazine and guaifenesin?
Good question: Guaifenesin is prescribed to loosen phlegm (mucus) so that it can be expelled more easily. But it's not particularly effective. Phenergan (promethazine) has mild sedative effects which may suppress the cough reflex but it's not specifically approved for that indication. I don't know how or why any specific doctor differentiates between the two. It's a mystery! ...Read more
