Infection (Definition)

Infections are invasions of some other organism (fungus, bacteria, parasite) or viruses into places where they do not belong. For instance, we have normal gut bacteria that live within us without causing problems; however, when those penetrate the bowel wall and enter the bloodstream, ...Read more

Hello I was told in the summer that I was pregnant I however was diagnosed with a fungal infection on my leg the spot is still there I need advice i?

Lotrimin (clotrimazole): You have to use a topical antifungals daily for 4 weeks; it stops the fungal growth allowing the skin to grow it out. It won't affect pregnancy in that little if any is absorbed. It is called tina corporus, not a danger to pregnancy. ...Read more

I got some kind of fungal infection in my legs, that area is black for now. It itches a lot, sometimes when I scratch I rip of. Some skin.

Intertrigo or Tinea: Where exactly is your rash, between your inner thighs/groin folds area? You can have a yeast (intertrigo) or fungal (tinea) infection. When the skin heals up, it usually results in a darker discoloration. Try a combination of Hydrocortisone over the counter (cortaid) and antifungal cream (clotrimazole, tinactin, (tolnaftate) lamisil) 2x/day for 2 weeks or so. Keep the area clean (gentle cleansing) and dry. ...Read more

Can fungal infection cause joint pain or loose legs?

Can fungal infection cause joint pain or loose legs?

Unlikely.: I have no idea what you mean by loose legs. If you are talking about weakness, it is an unlikely cause. Also joint pain without inflammation would be unlikely to be related to a fungus. ...Read more

Dx cellulitis/fungal infection, no better x 6 months continued +3 edema BLE, legs have now turned purple; doppler negative?

Dx cellulitis/fungal infection, no better x 6 months continued +3 edema BLE, legs have now turned purple; doppler negative?

See a dermatologist: Not just a few, but MOST diagnoses of "cellulitis" by amateurs are not correct. That is why antibiotic treatment fails. If it is BOTH legs it is almost certainly something other than cellulitis. You need to see a pro, a dermatologist. Most common is STASIS dermatitis due to defective valves in the veins. There are other possible diagnoses. Treatment follows diagnosis. ...Read more

My wife has fungal infection in her leg nails left and right finger nail and she is pregnant for one month, can she take Lamisil (terbinafine) tablets as treatment?

My wife has fungal infection in her leg nails left and right finger nail and she is pregnant for one month, can she take Lamisil (terbinafine) tablets as treatment?

I advise against it.: All medications may causer side effects. No one knows, for example, whether this drug might increase th risk of autism. The federal system for labeling drugs dangerous in pregnancy is poorl. They up the danger level once teratogenic effects become known. Paint the toenail surface qid with decolorized tincture of iodine--a highly potent fungicide. They will grow out normal. ...Read more

Have been treating entire body for fungal infection with coconut oil rash gone skin dry and flaky now still itches really bad possible I'd reaction? Symmetrical rash started on torso spread to arms and legs has reached ankles still extremely itchy on breas

Sounds fungal: Would need more background information as there are several potential causes for rash such as this. However, ruling out fungal infection is at top of list. Coconut oil has good antimicrobial properties and may have helped calm an inflammatory reaction to the infection, but does not seem to have completed the task. Would see a physician to confirm and take antifungal medication. ...Read more

Is it ok too exercise whilst treating a fungal infection around inner thigh area, or will this just slow the healing process and make it worse?

Is it ok too exercise whilst treating a fungal infection around inner thigh area, or will this just slow the healing process and make it worse?

Ok: If the exercise causes rubbing, and moisture, a good shower and reapplication of medication will negate the problem. Losing weight from the exercise will help preclude the tendency to pick up the fungus. That said, use your judgement as to what works best for you ...Read more

Respective doc. Me and my family are suffering from fungal infections near the butt area and inner thigh we are using terbinafine HCl but all in vain?

Fungal infection: There are other anti-fungal medications that would be useful to try for you and your family. I would recommend going back to the Physician who prescribed this first one to have him/her recheck you to see if a different medication would be more appropriate or if you have something different than a fungal infection. If you cannot reach this Physician, you can sign up for Healthtap Prime. ...Read more

Iam male received oral and rubbing 95% of time was protected there were fungal infection and some scratches on thigh and testicles, after 50 days hiv ab/ag negative result took 24 hours only, is it accurate or it was rushed with cheap testing method?

Low risk, valid test: There is no such thing as a "cheap" Ag/Ab test that is less reliable than others. And all the HIV blood tests are highly automated; they are almost impossible to screw up by lab error. Anyway, you had a zero risk exposure. You definitely did not catch HIV. ...Read more

My brother has a cracked heel and it's a fungal infection, shows bit red skin. What's the best thing to do? Also what's your opinion on coconut oil?

Moisturize: Any moisturizing, including coconut oil, with help heel fissures. If it is, in fact, due to fungus, he would be better off using an over-the-counter antifungal cream like terbinafine, tolnaftate or Clotrimazole (generic names). Using them under some plastic wrap at night will speed the process. ...Read more

Which medicine is good for nail fungal infection? I m already taking fluconazole ip 150mg one time in a week from 6 months.

Which medicine is good for nail fungal infection? I m already taking fluconazole ip 150mg one time in a week from 6 months.

Onychomycosis: Nailbed infections start in the nail matrix and need to grow out from there. This process takes longer in the toenails than the fingernails (+/- 12 mo vs 6 mo). Treatment w/ fluconazole/terbinafin usually daily; some other agents (itraconazole) 1 wk/mo (or other permutations) w/75-80% cure. Sometimes the nail has to be removed. Newer topicals may as well help alone/in combo w/oral antifungals. ...Read more

I have fungal infection on gorin. I consulted dermotologist and used medicines. Infection reduced but not completely. After that I had consulted many?

Call them back: If the medicines worked a bit, then there was some response, suggesting they were on the right track. Often there are escalating forms of treatment, more intense medications, etc. You should contact the doctor who was on the right track, and see what he wants to try next. There might be a stronger medication or a consideration of why this isn't better and something you can do to help. ...Read more
