Talk to your doctor : Your are on a hefty dose of Effexor (venlafaxine). Talk with your doctor before making any changes. I have seen some patients lose weight on their medicine. If you and your doctor determine that this is the maintenance dose required to manage your symptoms, then don't change. If your weight loss continues and poses a health risk, then you may need a dose adjustment or med change. Best wishes! ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Yes: The scariest possibility is that the propensity of Effexor (venlafaxine) to elevate blood pressure without the presence of recreational drugs would be potentiated in the presence of any substance with a capacity for elevating blood pressure to the point of producing a catastrophic event such as a cerebrovascular hemorrhage. Also there is serotonin syndrome and hyponatremia in addition to severe behavior change. ...Read more

Will the side effects of effexor such as tiredness fade over time and is it a better drug for g a d over lexapro. thanks
Feeling tired: Feeling tired after taking the effexor may or may not resolve. Somnolence occurs with lexapro 10% or more. Somnolence can occur with effexor up to 20%. See: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/lexapro-side-effects.html. And see: https://www.drugs.com/sfx/effexor-side-effects.html. My patients on lexapro usually have little in the way of side effects. They are both effective medications. ...Read more
I'm taking effexor (venlafaxine) 150mg and Lamictal 200mg. I'm worried about my low energy. Can these drugs cause hepatotoxicity and which are the symptoms?
Talk to your doctor : This is a good combination of medication. These meds are usually well-tolerated. Talk to your doctor about the risks, benefits and side effects of your treatment. If needed, your doctor can order tests to monitor your liver. We look for a yellow coloration to the white part of the eye or yellowing of the skin (jaundice) which suggests liver injury or disease. Talk to your doctor. Best wishes! ...Read more
I got prescribed the drug effexor (venlafaxine)....Prob not spelling it right....Anti depressent drug....Heard a lot of bad stuff aobut it im afraid to take it?
Effexor (venlafaxine): I agree with dr pappas. Please remember few go out of their way to tell others or post on the internet the expected "run-of-the-mill" affect of a medication. Rather, you are likely to hear or read the most positive or negative experiences. Your doctor evidently has confidence the medication is correct for you. Speak to your doctor about your concerns and clarify what your expectations should be. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Been off Effexor (venlafaxine) for a week....Feeling nauseated and a little dizzy i came on a one-day trip with my husband and left medicine at home. One day trip turned into a week without meds.
Effexor (venlafaxine) : Effexor (venlafaxine) is a serotonin—norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor medication. If you abruptly stop taking it you can develop a discontinuation syndrome. Some of the symptoms of a discontinuation syndrome with Effexor can include feeling restless, irritability, aggression and depressed mood. Some of the GI effects can include nausea and abdominal bloating. Dizziness, brain zaps (electrical sensation), feeling tired and the sense that things are spinning (vertigo) can occur. You could develop bizarre dreams, see things that aren’t there or hear things when there isn’t really noise. Because of it’s short half life there is a high risk of withdrawal symptoms with effexor, which can sometimes occur with as little as one missed dose. I recommend that if you ever forget your medications while on vacation, that you call the doctor who prescribed them. Ask the doctor to phone in a temporary prescription to a pharmacy that is close to where you are staying. Make sure you supply the name and phone number of the pharmacy. Please call your doctor to advise him or her of your situation. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
A follow up i was taking 300 mgs of Effexor (venlafaxine) I have lost 80 pounds not due to the drug but instead of having more energy I have less. Doc is lowering to 225mgs experiment he thinks 300mgs is sapping me?
No EnergyWt.Loss Dx: Low energy (asthenia) is a side effect found in greater than 10% of people taking venlafaxine. Weight loss occurs in 1-6% of people taking this medication. So it is possible that the drug is causative. However, an 80 lb weight loss and no energy is significant enough to warrant a doctor to look for other medical concerns that could be causing these sympotms. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Taking Effexor (venlafaxine) XR cause me to test positive on a drug test? I have been on Effexor (venlafaxine) XR for 3 years.
Is there another drug that I can be switched to from Effexor (venlafaxine) XR without going through withdrawal that I have read about on line. ?
Yes.: Switching from effexor (venlafaxine) to another antidepressant is generally accomplished by doing a "cross taper" - starting the new med at a low dose and decreasing the effexor (venlafaxine) a bit with a gradual decline in the effexor (venlafaxine) and increase in the new med. This generally avoids any of the withdrawal effects. P.S. not all patients have withdrawal effects from antidepressants. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
