Chemo and cancer: Dealing with cancer and its treatment is not something easy to do in many cases. Not only it is affecting your physical condition, emotionally, you can also develop anxiety, depressed mood, depression etc through out the battle. The chemo themselves do not give you insomnia. However, steroids are given prior to chemo, and this can cause insomnia. Depression/anxiety cause insomnia too. ...Read more
See below: Docetaxel is an anti-cancer drug. It's useful in a number of malignancies, such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, etc. The drug interferes with cells which are trying to divide (to form two daughter cells). A greater percentage of cancer cells are trying to do that at any particular time than non-cancer cells. Typical side effects include numbness and low blood counts. ...Read more
I don't think so: Do you mean fec (fluorouracil (5fu), epirubicin and cyclophosphamide)? If so, i think that the side effects with docetaxel are better compared to fec. However, it all depends on the dose. For many cancers we use a dose of 75 mg/m2 and in my opinion this much better tolerated than fec. Please make sure to ask your oncologist more details about docetaxel so that you are prepared. Best wishes ariel. ...Read more

I just finished taking my chemo treatments taxotere (docetaxel) and cytoxen, when will I feel good again?
I finished my final taxotere (docetaxel) four weeks ago and for the past week have been passing urine frequently, is this bad?
Not bad: I a ssume that the association of taxotere (docetaxel) and urinary complications are related to prostate cancer. In this condition taxotere (docetaxel) is used to contol the disease and is associated with minimal complaints. Having increased purinary frequency is related to pressure on the urinary tract outflow which would not be uncommon here. ...Read more

Very effective.: Docetaxel is also called Taxotere (docetaxel). It is in a group of drugs we call "taxanes". These are some of the most effective drugs to treat breast cancer. They work by inhibiting a cancer cell's microtubules. Microtubules are like tiny tinker toys. They form the structure of the cell, and they need to disassemble for one cell to divide into two cells. Taxotere (docetaxel) prevents this process. ...Read more

Same class, diff drug: Both Taxol (paclitaxel) and taxotere (docetaxel) (docetaxol) are of the class of cytotoxic chemotherapy drugs known as taxanes.
