No: Crohn's disease is not an infectious disease. That being said you can have a GI tract infection on top of the crohn's especially if you have been treated with antibiotics and this infection can be contagious from contact with your stool. Which abx?: If you are truly allergic to penicillin, erythromycin would work for strep infection as well unless you have had an adverse reaction to it. If your problem is primarily GI, consider taking a probiotic with antibiotic in the future. May check with allergist to find out if you are still allergic to penicillin as well. Low risk: Crohn's disease also increases the risk of cancer. That risk is a lot higher than the risk from infliximab (Remicade).
