Cloxacillin: Boils are usually caused by staphylococcus aureus. Over 90% of s.Aureus are resistant to Amoxicillin while depending on the local amount of mrsa, cloxacillin will be active against 60-70% of s.Aureus. All MRSA will be resistant to both these drugs. Depends: The boils are probably due to a staph infection and if the bug is resistant to clox and diclox drinking a gallon won't help. If the bug is sensitive it would probably do the trick. Cloxacillin and amox-clav will act against Methicillin sensitive staph but not MRSA. ...Read more

I think im pregnant and i have boil on my legs im taking cloxacillin would that affect the development of my baby? just incase im pregnant?
Not likely: The FDA states there are no reports of congenital abnormalities when taking Cloxacillin while pregnant. Personally, I would try to avoid taking prolonged antibiotics while pregnant if at all possible. Check with your doctor who prescribed this to you and ask for an alternative to taking an antibiotic based on your condition. Many times superficial skin boils are drained and don't need antibiotics. ...Read more
