53 yr-old woman developed disabling neurological pains and paresthesias this past year after an LP, felt to be acrachnoiditis plus had nasal CSF.....?

Not knowing from: Where you're contacting Health Tap, it wouldn't be practical to give you a referral, if that is indeed what you want. Whoever performed the nasal patch may be better able to guide you to appropriate specialists. Generally, university settings have specialists whose main focus is more narrow than those in community hospital systems. Best wishes! ...Read more

67 yr-old with years of monthly blackouts, with a history of PVC's, adrenal insufficiency and hypothyroidism, looking for a definitive diagnosis.....?

Multifactorial: There a several potential causes for the syncope in this lady. Of concern is that the episode on August 4th occurred without warning. This could be arrhythmic in origin. Although a Holter has been done the patient may need an Event Monitor and if this is negative an implantable monitor may be needed.

We need to make sure she has normal LV function by Echo etc as she does have a history of PVC's.

Vasodepressor syndrome needs to be also considered as she does have some features compatible with this. TTT would be reasonable.

Finally hypotension secondary to the endocrine problem needs to be considered. Perhaps she might need a vasoactive medication as she does have hypotension. ...Read more

What do you suggest if my son is 6y3m old. He is taking ADHD drug : ritalin10mg (1+0+0), rirperidone 1mg, catapres (clonidine) 0.1mg (1/4+1?

What do you suggest if my son is 6y3m old. He is taking ADHD drug : ritalin10mg (1+0+0), rirperidone 1mg, catapres (clonidine) 0.1mg (1/4+1?

What are concerns?: What are your concerns about his medication regimen? He is on a stimulant medication (Ritalin) in a fairly low dose. The clonidine (catapres) is a non-stimulant to help with the ADHD symptoms and often used as an adjunct if sleep problems. The risperidone is the only one that troubles me if he has straight ADHD and no co-morbid conditions like ODD or conduct, as behavioral therapy is first. ...Read more

Is it possible for a mouth swab drug test to be able to detect clonidine?

Is it possible for a mouth swab drug test to be able to detect clonidine?

Possible, yes: But highly unlikely. Oral swabs are usually part of a kit that is looking only for drugs of abuse, like opiates, cocaine, amphetamines, cannabis, PCP and others. Clonidine, while it can be abused, particularly together with opiates, is not a common drug of abuse and is not tested for specifically. If they are running full confirmatory testing with GC/MS they will pick up pretty much everything. ...Read more

Is it blood pressure or the medicine that is causing excessive amounts of fluid on my legs? Currently taking carvedilol, clonidine, and furosemide.

Both: The fluid may be a side effect of your heart working too hard to pump blood, which is hypertension, and the carvediol can also cause some swelling because it lowers your BP by dilating your arteries. The Furosemide is to help get rid of the fluid, no matter what the cause, so talk to your doctor, you may need a different dose. ...Read more

I take losartan, coreg, (carvedilol) hydralozine, clonidine, amlodipine for HBP& thyroxine for under active thyroid. Which drug could effect the affect cialis?

Symptoms?: Hi. Are you getting low blood pressure and/or dizziness when you take Cialis with your blood pressure drug regimen? I would think the hydrazine and the clonidine would be the most likely offenders based on mechanism of action. Generally losartan, Coreg, (carvedilol) and amlodipine are well tolerated with the Cialis family of drugs. But that's quite a BP combo; take my prediction with a grain of salt! Good luck ...Read more

Of the drugs listed: clonidine is the only one commonly associated with ED unless diuretics are involved. To a degree: All medications are not without risk but this one is often used to lower blood pressures that can be difficult to maintain at appropriate levels or those that need to be lowered from dangerous highs.
