Could happen: Ascaris are very large and can crawl into all kinds of places. Have seen them in the ears, coming out of the nose, in gall bladders, appendices, coughed up after being partially swallowed. Where on earth would you have become infected. If you can get one of these worms they are simple to identify, or a stool specimen will contain eggs. ...Read more
I have taken zentel 400 for 10 days for ascaris. I finished 4 days ago but symptoms still prevail. Any reason for this?
RE: Zentel: I would agree that a 10 day course of zentel is longer than usual, and should have treated the ascariasis. I would submit another stool specimen for bacterial culture, along with ova/parasite exam. I would strongly doubt ascariasis is an active problem at this time and attempt to exclude other problems. Gastrointestinal input with possible colonoscopy might be of benefit. Good luck. ...Read more

Secondary med: Current reccomendations list Praziquantel at 5-10 mg/kg x 1 dose as the preferred agent for tapeworm due to effectiveness & simplicity of treatment. Albendazole at a dose of 15mg/kg divided 2x/day for 1-6 mo may be effective but is certainly a harder rx to complete. See harriet lane handbook of pediatric antimicrobial therapy. ...Read more

Incomplete info: You have not provided enough information about your problem to provide much if any response. What "worm" were you treating? Why do you believe that treatment did not work? No such thing: There are many, many different worms, and each class has its own specific best agent. There isn't one that will work for every worm, because that insinuates you don't know what the worm is; I would definitely get evaluated by a doctor to see what these worms could be. Antiparasitic agents can have significant toxicity when used improperly. ...Read more
GOOD, but....: Otc pin-worm medication, pyrantel (pin-rid, pin-x) works well but reinfection with e. Vermicularis immediately after the completion of drug therapy is common. Interestingly: pyrantel works by making the worms unable to move (paralyzed) so that the body can remove them naturally in the stool. However, pinworm eggs remain infective for 2 weeks. So here's the treatment: 1/week for 3 weeks (>2yrs). ...Read more

Persistant diarreah for week strait. Fullness, bloated. Only stops w/ anit-diarreah medicine. I hope this isn't worms. Is it? I haven't seen one.
Diarrhea for a week straight is not likely due to worms per se. Worms do not generally cause a lot of diarrhea. This is very likely viral and should resolve with time. However, there may be some other historic factors that you did not identify that could change this.
