Not if it's viral: Hi. Antibiotic overuse and inappropriate use has led to a crisis in antibiotic resistance. Most upper respiratory tract infections are viral. If you saw a doctor and she/he felt yours is bacterial and prescribed amoxicillin, then that's appropriate. Amoxicillin is still good for most community acquired Strep that causes pharyngitis. Chronic tonsilitis, rehinitis cause bad fatigue? Sore throat/fatigue for months. Mono/strep/std neg. antibiotics/steroids/post nasal meds not help.

Good old penicillin: Despite being the oldest antibiotic around, it is still the #1 recommended treatment for strepthroat. If you are allergic to penicillin, you maybe given azithromycin, Clindamycin etc.. Add some salt-water gargles, motrin/tylenol, sorethroat spray for comfort.
