Is it safe to take nighttime sinus congestion medicine containing acetaminophen, chlorpheniramin maleate, and phenylephrine with delsym (dextromethorphan)?
Any natural decongestants? Sudafed causes insomnia. Flonase seems ineffective. Congestion affects sleep.
Suggestions: Sudafed and afrin are safe decongestants, Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and nasal steroids ok for allergy symptoms. Honey is a good cough suppressant. Oral steroids for severe allergy symptoms or oral narcotics for severe cough are ok. Best to clear any meds with OB or pediatrician. ...Read more

Check ingredients: These products contain a cocktail of four or more medications--avoid ibuprofen, Naproxen and Aspirin in pregnancy. Tylenol/acetaminophen is fine, and i don't see harm with Guaifenesin or phenylephrine. As a rule it's probably better to just buy the individual medication/s you need for symptom relief, even when you're not pregnant--avoid these cocktails. ...Read more
