Medical Symptom Smell Smoke
Do I have copd?! emphysema? Almost 25. Wheezing. I'm quitting smoking after 8 years. Sob. History of anxiety. Cough that tastes bad. Doc says reflux
Unlikely: Not after 8 years, even 2 packs/day.Nicotine withdrawal slows gut=>constipation=>reflux which causes wheezing. Also, healing lungs eject retained smoky mucous from deep down that tastes bad ; increases wheeze. Anxiety worsens, too. If it helps, it all happened to me when i quit 2 packs/day for 9yrs. It's temporary. Drink lots of fluids, rest. Treat wheezing/reflux if needed. You're so worth it. ...Read moreSee 3 more doctor answers
Is smelling smoke a symptom of a brain tumor a myth? Had CT scan 2 years ago for phantom smells. Everything normal. Now constant smell of smoke x2 days. Dry sinuses? No other neuro symptoms.
See your PCP: Myth, or no myth, it warrants further investigation. Smelling unusual smells that aren't present like smoke is not normal. So the first person to start a dialogue with is your pcp. S/he will be able to advise you further, and provide a referral to see a neurologist, if that's needed. Right now it needs to be documented, especially if you're smelling it full-time. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Read both sides: You know about the controversy and why so many physicians are skeptical. Right or wrong, this would be a great time to sit down with your personal physician or an expert on feelings and health and exploring the things that have happened to you, and how you can work more effectively and be happier in your current situation and in the future. Real or not, this seems to help MCS. ...Read more
Good question: If foods are poorly digested the bacteria in your colon can produce foul smelling flatulence. So I would start with digestive aids or see if a diet of foods easily digested improved the problem. I'm sure there are other possible reasons but I suggest starting with diet and herbs/supplements to aid digestion. ...Read more
It's a Myth: I am not an advocate of smoking and there are lot's of reason to quit smoking but "Second Hand Smoke" is not one of them. The expression "second-hand smoke" is a very effective piece of anti-smoking propaganda used all the time by public health officials and physicians yet there is absolutely no scientific evidence to support it's existence. It's logical to conclude but not proven in any study. ...Read more
I am allergic to cigarette smoke. I sometimes pass by smokers who exhale cigarette smoke & inhale this smoke. Can this inhalation cause lung cancer?
Hi i'm wanting some help i'm having some trouble sleeping because of coughing bad i'm a non smoker in a non smoking house maybe nasal drip tickling me?
That is possible : But it is also possible that you have developed an allergy to something. It is also not unreasonable to think of gastroesophageal reflux disease that can cause reflux of the gastric fluid into the back of your throat which can then go down into your lungs and cause significant coughing spells. Please see your family doctor to have this addressed further. Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season. ...Read more
Should i get checked for copd? Been a smoker for 3 years and no serious medical conditions. However, cough phlegm and occasional shortness of breath.
Not likely: Chances are that you do not have COPD after three years of smoking, unless you smoke 4 packs a day or have other underlying conditions that could predispose you to copd. But if you are having new symptoms of shortness of breath then you should get checked out. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

Hands smell like garlic? (have not eaten garlic though.) is this associated with any medical conditions?
Reflex: Sighing is usually an involuntary reflex in which your brain is telling your diaphragm and other chest wall muscles to expand your lungs fully in order to open up the air sacs in your lungs.
