For what problem?: The problem with medical marijuana at least in my state is no regulation or real diagnosis is needed to recieve it, one time visit for licence, then its pick your flavor at the dispenceries. No follow up in many cases. Opiate medications can be problematic as well. Many diagnosis would not require either if properly evaluated. For chronic pain opiates can be a great tool, but not a cure all. ...Read more

Klonopin/Marijuana: Empirically there is no problem taking Klonopin (clonazepam) and marijuana together. Medical marijuana is legal in certain states of the us. I practice in new jersey where medical marijuana is legal, and yes in certain patients, I have prescribed both. ...Read more

I use medical marijuana for multiple things pain from past injuries and anxiety. It help with both situations. I prefer natural medicine to many of the pills typically prescribed. Would you agree that this is okay as medicine?

Preventive meds: The best treatment for migraine is 1)finding out if there are foods or other environmental factors causing them and avoiding those things and 2) medications that prevent (not treat) migraine like verapamil, beta blockers or low-dose tricyclic antidepressants. Best treatment is with triptans. Some of my patients have gotten benefit from 'medical' mj, but most have not. Plus- unknown purity&smoked. ...Read more

So far, so good: The decades that good research might have been done to answer your questions are gone - time was lost - but now it will begin to be carefully studied. What we know so far looks very good and very safe. Alternative methods to smoking are available for it in places where it is legal. It is NOT the same as recreational pot. Who knows?: This is exactly the problem with "medical" marijuana. Doctors are not trained in the ins and outs of marijuana use. All we can do is "recommend" it. It's not really a prescription. That said, smoking it may not be the safest way to consume it because of possible damage to your lungs. Consider eating it (in cookies or other food) or using a vaporizer. Should be OK but...: Thank-you for your service to our country (i'm guessing you're not in afghanistan on vacation). Your lungs should be as good as new over time but to err on the side of caution i advise waiting at least a year before smoking to give your lungs time to heal.
