Invisalign (Definition)

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are clear plastic trays designed to tip your teeth into improved alignment. They are extremely esthetic, and must be worn >22 hours/day to be effective. They are not a braces substitute, are only about 60% as effective, take longer, are more expensive, and don't provide as much post-treatment stability. See an Orthodontic ...Read more

Hey I am having invisalign braces & before I had no prob with pronouncing S but now I am having a lisp with and without the braces. How can I fix that?

Be patient: It is very common for the speech to be affected during active Invisalign treatment. Pronouncing words that begin with the letter "S is the most common complaint. It will improve as the teeth move into alignment. Always make sure that your dentist is aware so that he/she can give you the right solution. Good luck.

Can you tell me are invisalign braces worth it?

Can you tell me are invisalign braces worth it?

Are you compliant?: Invisalign can be a better value than traditional orthodontics. They are esthetically pleasing and oral hygiene, especially flossing, is a breeze. While invisalign cannot be prescribed for all ortho issues, the greatest problem and the # 1 reason for failure is lack of compliance! If you cannot commit to wearing them at all times except eating and brushing / flossing you're tossing money away!

Can you tell me, are invisalign braces worth it?

Can you tell me, are invisalign braces worth it?

Depends: Know that, in the hands of fully trained orthodontic specialists, clear aligners are about half as effective as braces. In the hands of non-orthodontists the results are even less favorable. See an orthodontist for a qualified evaluation. Remember, everyone's different. Know that for my. Family I would tend to stay away from clear aligners.

Can you tell me are the invisalign braces worth it?

Clear Aligners: Worth is a relative term. How much is vanity/esthetics worth to you? Only you can answer that question. There are some tooth movements that are NOT as easily performed with clear aligners vs traditional fixed braces. Speak to your orthodontic specialist to make that determination.

Invisalign or braces, which is better for teens?

Invisalign or braces, which is better for teens?

Braces: First of all make sure you're seeing a qualified Orthodontist for Rx. Second, braces Rx can provide about 95% improvement in teens. Clear aligners (that only work if they are worn) result in less than 50% improvement. Talk this over with a pro, an Orthodontist. And if you wish get a second opinion. Wouldn't use it for my family.

Can my open bite be fixed with braces/invisalign?

Braces: Invisalign not appliance of choice for extruding teeth. Braces at least twice as effective. If open bite dental, can be treated with braces. If skeletal, may also need jaw surgery. See a qualified Orthodontic Specialist, you need a specialist to fix this.

Should I get invisalign or incognito lingual braces? Which is better?

Should I get invisalign or incognito lingual braces? Which is better?

Compliance: If you are a compliant patient, and wear your aligners as you should (22 hours per day), then choose invisalign. If you may not be so compliant, and do not trust yourself, then go for lingual braces.

Wanted to know if I can eat icecream and candy with invisalign braces on?

Wanted to know if I can eat icecream and candy with invisalign braces on?

Damage: Anything hard/sticky/chewy can damage trays and set back your treatment. But trays don't work if your not wearing them. It's a Catch 22. So limit "trays out" time and don't eat while trays are in.

Are there any other safe ways to close gaps without braces or invisalign?

Are there any other safe ways to close gaps without braces or invisalign?

Depends on Gap: The answer will depend on the size of the gap/gaps between your teeth. Cosmetic treatments (bonding and or veneers) can close gaps quickly, but these treatments make your teeth wider, not physically closing the gaps. Orthodontic treatment physically moves the teeth together, but takes longer w/o changing the tooth structure.

Is it possible to have an expander and invisalign braces at the same time?

No: First of all, clear aligner trays are not braces. They are less than 1/2 as effective in correction tooth malpositions. Second, aligners cannot and do not alter skeletal malrelationships. If jaws don't match they have to be corrected first, then teeth can be straightened (better and faster w braces). Please see a fully qualified orthodontic specialist.

Can you tell me docs, is invisalign better in certain cases than metal braces?

Better?: More esthetic...yes. Better...no. In the hands of a qualified Orthodontic Specialist, braces are >90% effective. Clear aligners about 41% effective. So it's a question of vanity vas efficacy.

Could invisalign be as effective as traditional braces at treating cross bite?

Could invisalign be as effective as traditional braces at treating cross bite?

Ask orthodontist: Simple cross bites involving one or two teeth can be easily treated with invisalign. When you get involved with multiple teeth and huge bony problems, then it's not so clear cut and you may need traditional orthodontics. The diagnostic records done by an orthodontist helps them determine the treatment plan and what they need to do to correct the problem. Ask an orthodontist.

I accidentially skipped 5 sets of aligners for my invisalign braces. What could happen?

Do they really fit?: Skipping that many aligners will usually prevent the trays from completely seating. This prevents your teeth from moving. Once that happens it is very hard to recover. Go back to the tray you skipped!

I have an overbite, and want to fix it w/o braces or invisalign. Is there a way to do that without those?

Not well: The alternatives may be far more expensive and painful. Not sure of your aversion to braces, but in all likelihood, while other solutions can exist (surgery as an example) they cost a lot more and hurt a lot more. Reconsider your aversion to orthodontics
