Chest pain: It sounds like it may be musculoskeletal but always good to ensure. Ice packs and moist heat will definitely help me move in the right direction with gentle stretching and massaging. BMI charts: BMI charts are very good for measuring body mass index - (BMI). The BMI range should be 20-25 but a bit higher might be OK. The most informative way is to get your weight without clothing on (at home of course). and get your height measured without shoes off. Of course your BMI will be lower if you have your height measured wearing high heels. Not a good idea! ...Read more
What is the I deal weight for a 5ft 5 Australian female aged 22 years old? Is BMI a good measure to rely on?
Can't tell, but...: A starting point is 130 lbs. A lot depends on a person's body build. Some are naturally very thin, others thick or big-boned, but most people are somewhere in between. "Australian" is a location, so that doesn't help either, as many different types of bodies are in Australia. BMI is helpful if a person is of average musculature. If very muscular, a perfectly fine person will have a high BMI. ...Read more
Yes: Aiming to be in the "healthy" BMI (body mass index) zone is a good long term goal for weight loss. However, some persons have mainly tummy fat. For those people, being in the "healthy" BMI range may still not be good enough, because excess tummy fat may be a part of "metabolic syndrome". Metabolic syndrome can lead to diabetes, so those patients should reduce tummy fat even if BMI is "healthy". ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Is BMI a good way to determine proper weight? I've heard body fat % is morene accurate. A 5-6 solid muscle guy could be over 200 lbs& considered obese

People who are very muscular could have a higher BMI that would not be truly reflective of their fitness and health. Combining the BMI with a body fat percentage would greatly increase its accuracy. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
