Marijuana As Treatment For Hemifacial Spasms
Bad idea: Smoking (inhaling smoke, which is full of lung irritants and cancer-causing chemicals) of any kind is unhealthy and bad for patients. There is rarely a need for smoking marijuana, but some people want to and like to smoke pot. However, if one's doctor has prescribed weed as a medical treatment, the risks and benefits will have to be compared.
Dr. Rotchford, you say that using medical marijuana for treatment of diverticulitus is dangerous because it's addicting. Can you explain more on that?
Another opinion: I'm not Dr. Rotchford but it is true that marijuana can be addicting. However, the incidence of marijuana addiction is quite rare and the vast majority of marijuana users do NOT become addicted. There is a much higher incidence of addiction to most other drugs including prescription narcotics. See http://tinyurl. Com/pqn2ujk and http://tinyurl. Com/ol3z3a2See 1 more doctor answer
Unknown: If you are being treated for thyroid cancer, I would not suggest using marijuana, since it does have some effects of suppressing immunity. There is no evidence that it would interfere with the radio-iodine or make it work any less well, but I would abstain for several weeks to be on the safe side. If you are being treated for hyperthryoidism or grave's disease, I don't think it is a problem.
Unlikely: That is not a good solution. Underlying anxiety needs to be treated with antianxiety medication or antidepression medication. Coping with problems is an important skill as well as dealing with drug addiction. Make an appointment with your doctor to figure out how you can cope with your underlying problems.See 1 more doctor answer
Can medical marijuana be used in the treatment of nephrotic syndrome? Looking to replace existing medications with side-effect-friendlier ones.
Marijuana: I don't think it is a good idea while you have nephritic syndrome. Please discuss this with the doctor seeing you for the nephritic syndrome. Hope all goes well.
Can medical marijuana help prevent retinal detatchment due to HCV treatment? I tore my retina in 3 places 16 years ago
Probably not: This should be discussed with your eye doctor. One thing to keep in mind is that interferon alfa is contraindicated with retinal problems, but the new treatments that should be available in the next 1-4 years (depending on certain factors) will be pills and no interferon. These might be safer. Your doc can help you figure out risks and benefits.
If medical marijuana is prescribed for treatment of a degenerative disease, is it legal and safe to smoke while breastfeeding? Via vapor/edibles.
Breastfeeding on Pot: Data indicate that active components of marijuana"pot" are excreted into breastmilk and concentrate in infants. Human and animal studies clearly suggest that early exposure to cannabis is not without risk, and that breastmilk cannabis exposure can produce long-term changes in behavior and mental health. What is the best treatment for recurring trochanteric bursitis that is irritated after running. Would medical marijuana help?
Will my marijuana addiction impede the effects of Elvanse (3x20mg daily) in the treatment of my ADHD and minor depression?
Addiction: Is going to interfere with nearly every treatment. One concern with your combination of marijuana and a stimulant, is they pull different ways. Stimulants can quickly become an addiction of their own. Be certain your prescribing physician understands all drugs, recreational and prescribed, that you are taking. Many times, depression has its solution in therapy, and not just a prescription
Will Medical Marijuana CBD strain with no THC help for anxiety/depression caused by lymphoma and chemotherapy treatment? No luck with ssri and benzos
It could: Dear Cesar: yes, CBD could help with anxiety although THC could also help with mild depressive symptoms. There are no clear guidelines here and you will have to try different mixes. There is a brand called care by design (CBD) that makes sprays with different percentages of CBD/THC. I usually recommend my patients to try both CBD and THC and see what works for them. All the best, Ariel.
Is medical marijuana a good option to help relieve side effects of lung cancer drug treatment such as nausea, appetite loss, and weakness?
I say 'yes': If they can obtain it legally, I would urge them to try it. For as long as I have been in medicine, I have been told about how effective many people have found this. For almost as long, the mainstream medical press -- not a hotbed of social radicals or fuzzy thinkers -- have felt that our cannabis policies are at best ill-informed. I am glad you are there for your friend with cancer. Obey the law.
No: There is no current evidence to support the use of cannabis as an antispasmodic. However, there is very little research to support it's use for any conditions except to increase appetite and glaucoma. It me be helpful for other conditions, but hasn't been proven yet. Mild evidence for chronic pain.See 1 more doctor answer
Is medical marijuana ever prescribed to treat symptoms of fibromyalgia? Scared to ask my doc about this as other treatments don't help. Weed does.
Yes: Our bodies naturally make pain relievers called endorphins, but they also make other substances that can trigger pain relief in the so-called endocannabinoid system. This system seems to play a key role in many processes in the body, including modulating how we feel pain. Marijuana contains cannabinoids very similar to those that occur in the body naturally.See 2 more doctor answers

I intake too much marijuana smoke and it worsens my depression and anxiety. What type of therapy would I benefit from the most?
Really?: I don't mean to come across as disrespectful, but if marijuana is increasing your depression/anxiety symptoms, then stop "intaking" marijuana smoke. If you are not smoking it yourself but are being exposed because someone else is smoking in your presence (and won't stop even though s/he knows it is harming you), then that is the problem, or at least a big part of it.
A serotonin inblalance from occasinal drug use mdma, cocaine, marijuana......How long would it take to get it back on track/ with therapy/ meds? About
Complicated cocktail: Mdma is a reuptake inhibitor of serotonin, Dopamine (da) & norepinephrine. Long-term use can damage the serotonin system. Cocaine blocks dat (da transporter), inhibits MAO (making amine transmitters more available) & down-regulates da receptors. Thc via cb1 receptors influences hippocampus & can interfere w/ memory. Depending on use patterns, may take up to a year to recover. See comment.
What is the effect of marijuana on stem cell therapy for the knees? I've read: 1) it produces bone 2) it helps stem cells grow...Thank you
No evidence: I am unaware of any scientific evidence of the effect on bone or stem cell growth. Biocellular therapy using stem/stromal cells and biologic agents (like platelet concentrates) are stimulated by growth factors and signal proteins to produce the healing effects. If you have such evidence you should post it on the site or inform your doctors.See 2 more doctor answers
